The Sarcophagus Key yields one of the best items in Avowed.
After hours of gameplay, you finally reach The Garden during "The Heart of the Living Lands" quest in Avowed. Surprisingly, The Garden features its own map and plenty of areas to explore as you try and free Sapadal from its adra prison. One of the first roadblocks you'll likely hit in The Garden is a gold-glowing sarcophagus that can only be opened with the Sarcophagus Key.
Naturally, with the end of the game approaching, you want to grab any advantage possible. It just so happens that the sarcophagus contains one of the best overall pieces of armor in Avowed, so finding the Sarcophagus Key is paramount.

Sarcophagus Key location in Avowed
Unfortunately, the Sarcophagus Key is nowhere near the actual sarcophagus. You have to travel quite a ways before you're able to get your hands on the key.
After you find the sarcophagus, simply continue on with the main quest by following the quest markers on your map. Defeat all the enemies that come up and loot their bodies for some rare crafting materials. Keep going until you reach an area with a perfectly circular pond of water that's surrounded by spider webs on the wall.
In this room, you'll find a small archway door past the pond of water. Head through the door and dive down into the water below you. In the water, you'll reach a fork that branches to the left and right.
Head left and come up for air. Climb on a nearby rock and then look on the other side of the water to find some brambles you can burn. Use Kai's ability, a grenade, or a fire spell to burn the brambles.
Then, use a frost grenade or a freeze spell to cross the water and climb up the rock that's now accessible after the brambles have been burned.
Continue up the path that you're now on and keep going until you reach a skeleton lying on the ground overlooking a large area below. Loot the skeleton to find the Sarcophagus Key along with a plethora of other items.

Using the Sarcophagus Key in Avowed
With the Sarcophagus Key now in hand, open your map and fast travel to the first party camp waystone you find after entering The Garden.
Exit the party camp go through the door straight ahead, where you visited earlier for the main quest. Head down the grand staircase to a flooded room and find the sarcophagus in a small room off to the side.
Use the Sarcophagus Key to open the coffin and loot the skeleton that's inside. This rewards you with the Spiritmender unique medium armor, which has some incredible effects and starts at legendary quality.
From here, head back up by climbing on the rocks and branches and continue to follow your quest marker to proceed with the story in Avowed.
