Battlefield 6 now lets you make and play your own custom maps in the Portal mode.
Dice and EA have made a massive splash in Battlefield 6, and it comes from somewhere completely unexpected. At the Worldwide Reveal event, it was revealed that Battlefield 6 would be introducing Portal Mode, a returning experience that allows players to create and design their own maps that can feature custom rulesets.
Portal is coming back from Battlefield 2042, but it has been massively enhanced with a slew of new upgrades and improvements to make it better than ever in Battlefield 6. Players will easily be able to create their own maps or find maps made by other players. We'll talk more about what Portal Mode has to offer below.
What is Portal Mode in Battlefield 6?
Portal Mode essentially gives any player the freedom to design their own map and rulesets. With a plethora of tools at your disposal, you can head into the mode and create a completely new map within Battlefield 6. You'll also be able to design fresh game modes that can adhere to your own rulesets, which is absolutely massive for content creators and the community at large. This is also huge for the longevity of Battlefield 6, as the mode allows for a reprieve from any of the base game content.
If you don't want to take on the task of creating your own maps or modes, you will easily be able to find what other players have created. The developers at the Worldwide Reveal event stated that:
"With updates to our UI and navigation systems, it will be easier than ever to find and share exciting new experiences made with Portal."
So, you can essentially hop into Portal, find what another player has created, and start playing their custom map and mode. If that wasn't a sweet enough deal, EA has confirmed that all players will be able to earn XP and progress their accounts through Portal Mode. This means you don't have to play the official multiplayer modes to earn XP and unlock content for your character. However, we don't know how that progression will be scaled, as it seems far too easy for players to exploit Portal Mode to rank up their account faster than players who just stick to the default multiplayer modes.

When is Portal Mode coming to Battlefield 6?

Fortunately for the community, Portal Mode will arrive in Battlefield 6 when the game launches on Oct. 10. You'll be able to immediately hop in and start creating your own content that can then be shared with your friends or the rest of the community.
Portal Mode should be terrific for testing out gun builds, perfecting the new movement mechanics, or simply experiencing Battlefield 6 in new ways with friends, strangers, or bots. Of course, you can also use Portal Mode as an addition to multiplayer, depending on what players in the community can come up with and create. The mode can offer an unlimited amount of content as long as the right tools are in place, and it looks like EA has done a better job of that than it did in Battlefield 2042.
