Here are some common League of Legends betting markets you need to know before starting to bet on LoL esports matches.
Looking to start betting on some League of Legends (LoL) esports? Here are some of the most popular League of Legends betting markets and types you need to know and understand before you start aiming to win big.
League of Legends betting markets explained
Many major online casinos also offer esports betting, particularly LoL. With five major regions: LCS (North America), LEC (EMEA), LPL (China), LCK (South Korea), and LCP (Asia-Pacific), there is no shortage of matches.
Below are some popular betting lines you may find on online esports betting sites.
Match winner
This betting market is only available for best-of matches, typically best-of-three and best-of-five sets. The Match Winner line is straightforward: which of the two teams will claim the victory (first to 2 on a Best-of-3, first to 3 on a Best-of-5)?
Each regional league and international tournament will show the current score of the series next to the team name.

In the top tier of professional League of Legends, a feature called Fearless Draft is enabled. This means that Champions (in-game characters) previously picked in the same series can no longer be played. Look into the Champion pools of teams and players to make a more informed decision.
Map winner
Map winner is another straightforward League of Legends betting market: predict which team will win a specific game.
In a best-of-one, this is the same as the match result.
For best-of-threes and best-of-fives, you can bet on individual map outcomes.
Knowledge of Fearless Draft also helps here. Some teams have shallow Champion pools that make their performance poorer in the latter games of a series.
Map Handicap
This is the lead or deficit to a team's series score. Map Handicap betting markets appear on Bo3 and Bo5 series. Usually, handicaps are in the form of ±1.5 or ±2.5 maps.
Below are example betting lines for Map Handicap in a best-of-three between Cloud9 (C9) and TSM, and when each betting line wins.
- C9 -1.5
- C9 needs to win 2-0.
- C9 +1.5
- C9 needs to take at least 1 map.
- TSM -1.5
- TSM needs to win 2-0.
- TSM +1.5
- TSM needs to take at least 1 map.
The Map Handicap market allows for a more detailed bet on the match winner, or a safer line when betting on an upset.
Race to Kills
In the Race to Kills market, you predict which team will reach a certain number of kills first. This result is independent of whichever team wins the match.
The broadcast displays the number of kills each team has in the top-middle section of the HUD.
The betting lines for this market are usually 5, 10, 15, or 20. Understanding which teams go for early aggression and kills is crucial here. Know which teams like to play for early leads and fast starts.
Total Kills
The Total Kills market predicts whether the combined kills by both teams will be over or under a set line.
The key here is to know how teams, and sometimes entire regions, like to play the game. Regions have their own identity, like how LPL games tend to be bloodier while LCK games are usually more objective-focused and result in fewer kills.

Map Duration
This is another over/under market, and predicts how long a map will last. The broadcast also shows this at the top of the HUD, right between the teams' kill numbers.
Here, understanding how Champions and team comps work is the key. Some Champions can easily snowball off of a slow lead and will often result in shorter games, but there are scaling Champions who like to stretch out the game time.
Kill Handicap
This is a spread, much like the map handicap market. Kill handicap predicts which team will have a kill lead/deficit by the end of the game, and by how much.
Study each player and their Champion's teamfighting ability. Kills can happen in the early stages of the game, but big leads are made in large, 5 versus 5 teamfights where everyone is involved.
These are just some of the many popular League of Legends betting markets that exist. Whether you are new to LoL betting or not, always make sure to bet responsibly.
