Here’s everything you need to know about Black Ops 7 multiplayer.

The Gamescom Opening Night live worldwide reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 showcased a slew of details about multiplayer and everything players can expect when the game launches on Nov. 14. Treyarch went under the hood and revealed how many maps are coming at launch, the number of weapons, the return of Specialists abilities, and even some fan-favorite guns that are returning.

While we did get to see a ton of intriguing elements of multiplayer, Treyarch made it clear that a majority of the mode still hasn't been unveiled. That will occur at the COD Next event, which takes place on Sept. 30. For now, though, you can check out the guide below to see everything we currently know about Black Ops 7 multiplayer.

The weapons of Black Ops 7

Let's kick things off with the weapons, which are always a major talking point in the lead-up to a Call of Duty title.

Treyarch confirmed that 30 weapons are coming to Black Ops 7 at launch, and over half of them are brand new to the franchise. However, the other half have been seen before. The returning weapons include the Peacekeeper and the M8A1, as well as a clone of the DSR 50 sniper from Black Ops 2 called the VS Recon. The Peacekeeper and the VS Recon were both showcased more in-depth, as those weapons are featured in the Vault Edition as pre-order bonuses.

The 30 weapons at launch mean that no Carry Forward from Black Ops 6 will be available on Nov. 14. However, those BO6 weapons could still arrive later due to how Carry Forward is being handled in Black Ops 7.

Across those 30 weapons, you'll be able to earn two Weapon Prestiges, which are unlocked by ranking up each individual weapon. When you enter a Weapon Prestige, you'll unlock exclusive attachments and camos. Every weapon can go up to level 250.

We'll see more of the weapons available at launch at COD Next and during the beta for Black Ops 7, the latter of which is set for early October.

Next, let's talk about the maps in Black Ops 7. Maps are often what make or break a Call of Duty title, and that's something we saw on full display with Black Ops 6. BO6 offered smaller and more hectic maps that promoted aggressive playstyles and frenetic gameplay, a design decision that didn't go over well with the community.

While we don't know exactly if Treyarch is changing up that map design, we do know that three iconic maps of the Black Ops franchise are coming back. Raid, Hijacked, and Express have all been confirmed as launch maps for Black Ops 7. In total, multiplayer is going to offer 16 6v6 maps at launch, including the three remakes. So 13 of the 16 maps will be completely new maps, and we got to see a couple of them on display at the Gamescom reveal. However, not much was shown, so we can't gauge their overall design.

Here is every 6v6 map coming to Black Ops 7:

  1. The Forge
  2. Toshin
  3. Exposure
  4. Cortez
  5. Scar
  6. Den
  7. Homestead
  8. Colossus
  9. Imprint
  10. Dry Dock
  11. Retrieval
  12. Paranoia
  13. Black Heart
  14. Express
  15. Raid
  16. Hijacked

In addition to the 16 6v6 maps, BO7 will also have two maps for the new Skirmish game mode. Skirmish is essentially this game's version of Ground War, which takes two teams of 20 and puts them on a large-scale map complete with vehicles, wingsuits, and multiple objectives.

Here are the two Skirmish maps coming at launch:

  • Mission Edge
  • Mission Tide

Leaks have indicated that the post-launch support for Black Ops 7 will include a large variety of new and remade maps. However, we'll have to wait and see how that pans out.

Scorestreaks, Specialist abilities, perks, and equipment

Finally, we can dive into perhaps the most intriguing part of the multiplayer mode this year: the new technology. With Black Ops 7 being set in the year 2035, Treyarch can take certain liberties with multiplayer, and that includes a slew of new features and mechanics.

For starters, the developers revealed that players can now overclock their scorestreaks and Field Upgrades/equipment. This is akin to something we saw in Advanced Warfare, where you could change the function of your scorestreak in exchange for a smaller or larger killstreak/score.

In Black Ops 7, you can pick between two overclock bonuses that offer different buffs to whatever you're using. Overclocking is available for scorestreaks, equipment, and Field Upgrades. Specifically, Field Upgrades offer arguably the most interesting overclocking abilities.

Field Upgrades now include what we know as Specialist abilities from games like Black Ops 3 + 4. One of the Field Upgrades we got to see was Active Camo, which allows players to turn invisible for a brief time. Using the overclock bonuses, players can either choose to have Active Camo last longer or have Active Camo turn back on after a player has shot their weapon (similar to Halo's Camo).

Here are some more examples of equipment, Field Upgrade, and scorestreak overclock abilities:

  • Cluster Grenade (Lethal Equipment):
    • First Overclock: Controllable Fuse: Adds the ability to cook the fuse over time.
    • Second Overclock: Tighter Packing: Adds one additional mini grenade to the projectile.
  • Drone Pod (Field Upgrade):
    • First Overclock: Quick Launcher: This rapidly increases the speed at which drones are launched.
    • Second Overclock: Radar Link: Leaves a minimap icon at each drone’s detonation point.
  • RHINO (Scorestreak):
    • First Overclock: Power Module: This extends the runtime for the Rhino, allowing for even more mayhem.
    • Second Overclock: Sonar Pulse: This reveals nearby enemy locations on the Rhino’s minimap and enhances both radar length and duration.
  • D.A.W.G. (Scorestreak):
    • First Overclock: Large Battery: Enhances the active duration.
    • Second Overclock: Sentry Mode: Allows D.A.W.G. to hunker down, guarding an area and deploying a supply pack and integrated Trophy System.

There are plenty of other Field Upgrades and options for the overclocking feature in both scorestreaks and equipment, but we'll have to see those on full display at COD Next. One scorestreak we did get to briefly see during the Gamescom reveal was the D.A.W.G., which looks to be a self-controlled robot dog that runs around killing enemies for you.

We also saw teasers for the VTOL Warship, Sentry Turret, RHINO (which looks like the G.I. Unit from Black Ops 3), and a Hunter Killer drone.

Finally, Treyarch showcased some of the perks players can equip on their loadouts in Black Ops 7. The most interesting perk is one that enables Tactical Sprint. That's right, by default in BO7, Tactical Sprint is disabled, which is a first for the franchise since 2019. By equipping the Tac Sprint perk, though, you can re-enable the movement feature.

Another intriguing perk is Looper, which allows you to loop your scorestreaks during the same life. Basically, if you earn all of your scorestreaks during one life, the Looper perk lets you re-earn them if you earn enough score. Looping streaks is a long-requested feature from fans, so it's nice to see Treyarch making an effort to please that section of the community.

If you want to use all of these perks, you're able to do so in Black Ops 7 thanks to the Specialist Bonus returning. This allows you to unlock every perk during the course of a match after going on a long enough killstreak. We saw the best version of this in the original MW3, but Specialist has been brought back in other games and Warzone recently.

There were some other bits and pieces of multiplayer Treyarch showcased at Gamescom, but that covers the bulk of what they had to say. As we said before, we'll hear plenty more about Black Ops 7 multiplayer at COD Next in late September.
