An old favorite returns in Season 3, but how is the CR-56 AMAX unlocked?

The CR-56 AMAX is one of the most beloved assault rifles in Call of Duty history, and the Season 3 update in Warzone and Black Ops 6 is reintroducing the weapon to the community. To celebrate the return of Verdansk, Activision is also releasing some of the weapons that were a part of the original meta during the map's peak.

Along with weapons such as the Kilo 141 and the HDR, the CR-56 AMAX certainly left its mark on Warzone when it dominated lobbies in 2020 and 2021. While it remains to be seen if the AMAX will have the same impact in 2025, you need to unlock the AR before you're able to make that judgment for yourself. Below, you can see exactly how to unlock the CR-56 AMAX in Season 3.

Unlocking the CR-56 AMAX in Warzone and Black Ops 6

Just like the HDR, the CR-56 AMAX is mainly available to unlock through the Season 3 Battle Pass in Warzone and Black Ops 6. Other weapons, like the Kali Sticks, are unlocked in different ways, though, so don't expect to unlock everything Season 3 has to offer solely through the Battle Pass.

Specifically, you can unlock the CR-56 AMAX on Page 11 of the Battle Pass. It's the HVT tier reward on Page 11, meaning you have to unlock all the smaller tiers of content on Page 11 before the CR-56 AMAX becomes available to unlock. You can unlock the smaller tiers in whatever order you like, so long as you unlock each one.

Being on Page 11, the CR-56 AMAX isn't a weapon you can unlock quickly through the Battle Pass. However, you can get a little closer before even playing a match in Season 3 by purchasing the BlackCell version of the pass. This costs $30, comes with exclusive cosmetics, and gives you 25 free tier skips. These tier skips won't get you to Page 11, but they'll get much closer than if you simply leveled up the pass like normal.

The Battle Pass is normally progressed by earning and using Battle Pass Tokens. These are earned by simply playing Warzone or Black Ops 6, but they can be purchased using COD Points as well.

If you want a more direct approach to unlocking the CR-56 AMAX, there will be a store bundle containing a blueprint for the weapon on sale at the start of Season 3. We don't know how much the bundle is going to cost or what it will contain, but that's the easiest way to unlock the CR-56 AMAX.

Black Ops 6 will be able to make progress towards unlocking the CR-56 AMAX as soon as Season 3 drops at 9 am PT on April 2. However, Warzone players have to wait until 24 hours later on April 3.

Warzone is going offline all day on April 2 to prepare for the arrival of Verdansk, so you won't be able to play the game for that entire day. When 9 a.m. PT on April 3 hits, you can then download Season 3 and start playing Verdansk and working to unlock the CR-56 AMAX.
