We’ve got a guide to the economy, strategic elements, and objectives you’ll come across for the Counter-Terrorists in CS2.

The Counter-Terrorists are one of the two sides in CS2. You've got them and the Counter-Strike Terrorist organization. These are who you play on defense and attack, respectively. So, when you swap sides at the half, you'll also swap between CT and T.

They have a different objective than the Terrorists, along with different equipment and weapons to purchase in the buy menu. And just so you know exactly how things work with them, we've got this handy guide for you.

What is the objective of the Counter-Terrorist team in CS2?

There are a few modes across the CS franchise where you'll play as the CT side of things. Here they are and the objectives of the Counter-Terrorists while in those modes:

  • Assassination: Protect and lead the VIP to the extraction point.
  • Hostage Rescue: Find, rescue, and escort hostages to the designated extraction zone.
  • Escape: Eliminate all Terrorist players before they can reach the escape zone, or prevent them from achieving their goal as the time runs out.
  • Bomb Scenario: The main mode of Counter-Strike. Attempt to eliminate all Terrorist players before they plant a bomb, or successfully defuse the bomb once planted.

The majority of the time, you'll take part in that final mode listed. It is the basic CS game mode and has spawned many others like it across games such as VALORANT and even Halo Infinite.

How the CT economy differs from the T-Side

There are different weapons and pieces of equipment available for the Counter-Terrorists in CS compared to the Terrorists. You'll want to know how to earn money and what you can use it on to stay ahead of the T-Side in a match of Bomb Scenario.

Let's go over how to add cash to your buy phase first and foremost:

  • Earn $3250 by eliminating the entire enemy team.
  • Earn $3250 by winning due to time running out.
  • Earn $3500 by winning due to bomb defusal.
  • The player that defuses the bomb earns $300 more.

That's the important information on earning money, as you'll obviously get money for eliminations. That all depends on the weapon you are using. If you get a knife kill for example, that's $750 in casual and $1500 in competitive modes.

Now, we'll focus on the full economy setup for the Counter-Terrorists in CS2. The table below showcases every available weapon and equipment item for the CT-Side, including its cost. We'll mark CT exclusive things with an asterisk.

Counter-Terrorist strategy in CS2

Now, we'll get into the strategy of playing the CT-Side in Counter-Strike 2. Again, most of the time, you'll be playing the Bomb Scenario mode of the game. That's what we will touch on here.

The goal is to lock down locations, prevent the enemy team from planting the bomb, or defuse it if they manage to do so. Here are some strategic tips you'll want to employ:

  • Use smoke grenades to block off attacker lanes, stalling them and draining time off the clock.
  • Shotguns and SMG weapons are much more reliable as a CT, as you can sit in corners and other off angles to surprise the Terrorist side.
  • Stack a site with the entire team if your buy is low, so you can trade kills, or retake all together if the enemies happen to push the other site.
  • If you get a pick, don't heat up and push the enemy team. Instead, back off and regroup with your team to keep the numbers advantage.
  • Sit in different spots, swap sites, and utilize different defensive positions and strategies each round so the T-Side can't predict what you're doing.

Those are simple tactics, but the simplest of tactics tend to be the ones people forget the most. So put them to good use and you'll dominate as the Counter-Terrorist side in CS2.
