Cruel Mercy is the latest addition to the Nightfall weapon pool.
A Heavy Burst pulse rifle has arrived in Destiny 2 in the form of Cruel Mercy, with several great god rolls for players to chase.
This Omolon frame Arc pulse rifle is mighty accurate and has great range. It's ideal for those who like the archetype in the Crucible, but it can hold it's own in PvE too.
Here's our picks for the Cruel Mercy god roll in Destiny 2.
What is the god roll for Cruel Mercy in Destiny 2?
Cruel Mercy PvE god roll
Column | Perk(s) |
---|---|
Barrel | Arrowhead Brake |
Magazine | Appended Mag |
Trait 1 | Dragonfly |
Trait 2 | Rolling Storm |
Origin Trait, Masterwork, Weapon Mod | Omolon Fluid Dynamics (Origin Trait) Stability/Reload Speed (Masterwork) Backup Mag (Weapon Mod) |
Like the Rite of the Nine weapon Long Arm, we were supposed to see Jolting Feedback and Voltshot on Cruel Mercy. However, a late change has seen both perks disappear from the loot pool.
We're left with some pretty mid options for PvE. An interesting combination is Dragonfly and Rolling Storm, with the explosions from Dragonfly helping proc the full stacks of Bolt Charge.
There's also the Demolitionist and Adrenaline Junkie combo for those spamming out grenades, but otherwise, there are several better options in this archetype for PvE.

Barrel | Chambered Compensator |
Magazine | Ricochet Rounds |
Trait 1 | Lone Wolf Keep Away |
Trait 2 | Headseeker |
Origin Trait, Masterwork, Weapon Mod | Vanguard's Vindication (Origin Trait) Range (Masterwork) Target Acquisition (Weapon Mod) |
Unlike for PvE, Cruel Mercy has its place in PvP. I'm liking the look of Keep Away in the first column, boosting reload speed, range, and accuracy while the target is at a distance. Given Cruel Mercy's great base range, it makes it a perfect candidate for these distance-based perks. Lone Wolf is a good pick too.
I'm linking it with Headseeker in column two, which is a little more consistent for me than Desperado (although that certainly is a fun option for a heavy burst pulse rifle). Kill Clip is also available for those wanting to boost their damage output after landing a kill.
How to get Cruel Mercy in Destiny 2

Cruel Mercy is a Vanguard Nightfall weapon, meaning you'll need to wait until it becomes part of the weekly Nightfall pool then run the activity to get your hands on it. Once you get one, you can reroll your Vanguard Engrams for copies with different perks.
The weapon was introduced with the May 6 Rite of the Nine update. For the full week it dropped much more frequently with a higher drop chance. Adept versions with multiple perks can be obtained by running the weekly Nightfall at Grandmaster difficulty.
Cruel Mercy cannot be crafted. Enhance the weapon to unlock upgraded versions of its perks with additional effects.
