With over 100 Dota heroes to choose from, knowing who dominates the meta is key.

It's draft time during your next ranked Dota 2 game. You're on a bit of a loss streak, you're bleeding MMR, and you need to get a win as soon as possible. Instead of picking Pudge for the 200th time in a row, why not consider a better hero?

Each hero has its advantages and drawbacks, but in every patch, a handful rise above and set the patch's meta in stone. Using personal experience and raw stats from sites like Dotabuff and Spectral, we've compiled a list of the best heroes in ranked play.

Here is the esports.gg Dota 2 tier list featuring the best heroes to play as of Patch 7.37e.

The best heroes in Dota 2, ranked: Tier list

Below is our tier list for the best Dota 2 heroes right now. Not every hero makes the cut, but just because you don't see your favorite hero here doesn't mean they're bad! The beauty of Dota is that every hero can work, but some shine a little brighter in each patch — we've highlighted them in the list below.

We've sorted the top heroes into three main tiers:

  • S-Tier: The most dominant heroes in the meta right now, picked or banned in almost every ranked match, extremely powerful.
  • A-Tier: Consistent, versatile heroes; can be played in multiple positions, constantly see match time, and are effective in their main roles.
  • B-Tier: Pocket picks; above average in a specific role, at least one solid Facet choice, and slip under the radar to make a draft often enough.

S-Tier heroes

Hero
Description
An icon of Abaddon in Dota 2.Abaddon
Hybrid. Incredibly tanky and versatile; designed to carry plenty of aura items like Pipe of Insight and Crimson Guard to aid in team fights without attacking. If his ultimate is up, run in and absorb all damage while your carries dish out damage from behind.
Bloodseeker
Carry. Bloodseeker is seeing plenty of action in Dota right now, but focused heavily as a position one. The Arterial Spray Facet is one of the best facets in the game, and his mobility and tankiness (via Thirst) makes him a potent pick.
lichLich
Safe lane, support. Chain Frost and Sinister Gaze is a killer combo that sees Lich become a potent hero without much gold. He scales throughout the game well and offers great survivability with Frost Shield. Be sure to bring Lotus Orbs if you're against a Lich to bounce that ulti back at him!
Wraith KingWraith King
Safe lane, mid lane. Skeleton Wraith King has ascended the throne once more. He was already pretty strong in 7.37c and 7.37d, but as other carries copped post-TI nerfs he avoided Valve's gaze. Tanky, high damage output, and can single-handedly carry a team through the mid-game.
ClockwerkClockwerk
Off-lane, support. Clock's back with a vengeance with the hero not a common pick for the better part of a year due to a hit to his survivability. Even though this wasn't addressed in 7.37d, his initiation Hookshot and Power Cogs combo starts a team fight off well. Requires a little team coordination to shine.
Lifestealer
Carry. Lifestealer is back to his best in 7.37e with Rage enabling the melee carry to take on an entire team himself. He's still a mid-game focused hero with items like Sange & Yasha and Armlet giving him a power spike at around the 20-to-30-minute mark — look to end games here.
Silencer
Hybrid. One of the most versatile heroes in Dota right now. Silencer has seen picks across the map, but primarily as a position four support. Both his facets are strong right now, with Global Silence as powerful as ever.

A-Tier heroes

Role
Heroes
CarrySpectre, Medusa
MidNight Stalker, Lina, Arc Warden, Broodmother, Necrophos
OfflaneDawnbreaker, Axe, Legion Commander
SupportWarlock, Shadow Shaman, Necrophos, Oracle

Medusa and Spectre highlight the top of the A-Tier, while Night Stalker has returned to the tier list after a patch or two of irrelevance. Dawnbreaker remains consistent as a force in the offlane.

Warlock has dropped from our S-tier as players adjust to the golem-summoning supoprt, while Necrophos appears twice in our A-tier for both the mid-lane and, curiously, as a support thanks to his shard and inherent tankiness.

B-Tier heroes

Role
Heroes
CarryJuggernaut, Marci
MidLone Druid, Void Spirit, Outworld Destroyer
OfflaneVisage, Tidehunter
SupportTidehunter, Undying, Witch Doctor, Ancient Apparition

Witch Doctor remains a staple in the meta but nerfs to his Death Ward's damage means he isn't as strong as he was. Of note is Juggernaut, who is close to hitting the A-tier as his popularity surges.

Lone Druid has taken over the mid-lane as 7.37e has gone on, while Void Spirit makes his first appearance in our tier list. Also up in the win rate chat is Visage but again, not as a support — try him out as a position three offlaner for maximum effectiveness.
