Monster Hunter Wilds: How to switch weapons

Swapping between your two primary weapons is confusing

One of the brand new elements in Monster Hunter Wilds is the ability to equip two entirely different weapon types. Instead of only being able to bring a single weapon on a hunt and having to lug yourself back to camp to switch it, you now have two loadouts you can switch between in the middle of combat in Monster Hunter Wilds.

While this is a tremendous feature and something fans have been asking for, switching weapons isn't as simple as it sounds. You are able to swap between them, but the way your character does that in Monster Hunter Wilds is quite confusing.

For a full guide on how to switch weapons, keep reading below.

How to switch weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds

First and foremost, there is a dedicated keybind to switch weapons, which you can find by going into the settings from the main menu. If you're on PC, you can go to "Keyboard Configuration" while controller players can go to "Controls." From here, select either the Melee or Ranged combat section and go all the way down until you reach the "Seikret Controls (While Mounted)" section.

In this section, you'll find the keybind option for "Switch Weapons." You need to press this button while in combat or exploring the map to switch from your current weapon to the other one you have equipped. If you only have a primary weapon equipped, pressing the button won't do anything. Make sure to select both a primary and secondary weapon from the Smithy or your tent at camp.

If you do have two weapons equipped, head outside of camp and press the dedicated switch weapons button. While you might expect your character to simply swap weapons on their back, you'll instead call your Seikret and mount it. This is maddening, as I couldn't figure out why I was mounting the Seikret when the controls clearly say that I'm supposed to be swapping weapons.

However, the way it works in Monster Hunter Wilds is your character can only swap weapons after mounting the Seikret. Your character needs to retrieve the other weapon from the Seikret, forcing you to mount the bird. When you jump off the Seikret, you can unsheathe your weapon to find that you have the new weapon in your hands.

While this does make sense from a realistic standpoint, after all those weapons are heavy, it is extremely annoying to always have to call and mount the Seikret when I want to change weapons. It can sometimes work out in your favor if you have to move out of the way of a monster's attack, but more often than, I find myself immediately jumping off the Seikret so I can get back into the fight with my other weapon.

Either way, that's the only way to switch your weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds.

That's all for now. Stick around on esports.gg for more news and updates.
