A new beta for a new game
After a long development and some pre-alpha tests, Splitgate 2 has finally launched an open Alpha for all players to participate in. This is a direct sequel to the original Splitgate, but with some much-needed changes that will, hopefully, allow for more player retention and longevity.
Whether you were a fan of the original before it was shut down or you're looking for an exciting new FPS to jump into, Splitgate 2 could be the next multiplayer game you sink your teeth into. However, to take part in the open Alpha, you need to know what platforms the portal shooter is available on, how to play, and when the Alpha ends.
How to play the Splitgate 2 Open Alpha

Fortunately, Splitgate 2 is a free-to-play game, meaning there is no purchase necessary to play. The Open Alpha is available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Unfortunately, it looks like there are no plans for the shooter to arrive on last-gen consoles, so PS4 and Xbox One players will need to upgrade to play.
The Open Alpha can be downloaded on your system's marketplace. If you're on Steam, just type "Splitgate 2" into the store's search bar, go to the game's page, and download the Alpha application. On console, go to either the PS or Microsoft Store, search for the game, and download the file. The Open Alpha doesn't have too large of a file, so you shouldn't have to worry about deleting games to make room on your hard drive.
Once the Alpha is installed, you can boot it up and start playing. Splitgate 2 supports crossplay as well, so you're fully able to party up and play with any friend regardless of what platform they're on.

Splitgate 2 Alpha end date
The Splitgate 2 Alpha runs from today, Feb. 27, until March 2. This is only a few days of playtime, but this Alpha is just for the developers to gather feedback from the community, stress test the servers, and see how the game performs in the hands of consumers.
It's likely additional Alpha tests will launch later this year as Splitgate 2 moves closer and closer to a potential release date. However, for now, this is the only announced Alpha, so you want to ensure you get some playtime in if you want to try out the sequel.
