Build your character choice and match strategy around the main objectives of different game modes in Marvel Rivals.

This Marvel Rivals poster features Spider-Man characters and heroes from other franchises

If you ever played other popular hero shooters, the Marvel Rivals game modes will be pretty familiar to you. The game takes the core of fun and competition from other titles but also adds some unique features, such as destructible elements in the environment.

A game mode you choose to play in Marvel Rivals affects the characters you would prefer to take and your strategy on the map. To succeed as a team, you should clearly understand the main objectives and a variety of ways to reach your goals: like routes to take and high grounds to occupy. The character roster and the abilities of Marvel Rivals heroes are an extra layer that makes playing familiar modes a refreshing experience — which may involve new creative ideas from your side.

Here we list and explain all Marvel Rivals game modes.

Domination in Marvel Rivals: Game modes

The main goal here is to capture the objective point. Your team should stand within the control zone and eliminate all the opponents from it — to reach 100% of the capture progress.

When someone from the other team enters the control zone, it becomes contested, and no one gets the capture progress. Make sure you do not let the opponents come close or just kill them quickly to win rounds in Domination.

Marvel Rivals features best-of-three matches in this game mode. You need to win two rounds to celebrate the ultimate victory. The objective point changes its location in new rounds. For example, there are three mission areas on the map Yggsgard.

While playing Domination in Marvel Rivals, you will be able to see the capture status underneath the progress bar. It shows how many players from both teams are within the control zone. This feature should help you make decisions on the current actions.

Domination is playable on a few maps, such as Hydra Charteris Base: Hell's Heaven, Yggsgard: Royal Palace, and Wakanda: Birnin T'Challa.

Conquest: Marvel Rivals game modes

The basic rules here are pretty straightforward: kill your opponents and don’t let them kill you. The Marvel Rivals teams should collect more kill points than their opponents to win matches in the Conquest game mode.

  • Kill and collect a dropped coin of your opponent. A kill itself is not enough. These coins add points to your team’s score.

The value of one coin increases over time. Teams need to collect 50 kill points to win a match or have a high score when the timer reaches zero.

Marvel Rivals has a separate playlist for this game mode. The available map is Tokyo 2099: Warped Ninomaru.

Convoy in Marvel Rivals

Teams take the roles of Attackers and Defenders.

  • Attackers enter the playable area first. They need to prepare their defense around the movable vehicle. Their main goal is to take the vehicle to the end point.
  • Defenders join the battle after 30 seconds. Their goal is not to let the vehicle reach its destination.

When someone of attacking players is around the vehicle, it starts moving. The speed is higher if there are a few Attackers close. The opposite happens when Defenders take control over the area around the vehicle: the thing starts moving backward. When no one is around, the vehicle stops.

The Convoy Game Mode in Marvel Rivals has two intermediate checkpoints. When Attackers reach one, they get extra time to complete their mission.

In the competitive playlist, teams change sides for the second round. Moving from Attackers to Defenders and backwards may require different duties for the main roles in Marvel Rivals. In the quick matches, there is only one round of Convoy per match.

You can play this mode on Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path and Tokyo 2099: Spider-Islands.

Convergence: Game modes in Marvel Rivals

Here, we have a mix of Dominance and Convoy.

  • Teams take the Attackers and Defenders roles. Attackers should take the vehicle to the end point. Defenders try to stop them.
  • Before the vehicle starts moving, Attackers need to capture the mission area.

The playing maps in Marvel Rivals Convergence are divided into three areas. After capturing one, the attacking team should take the vehicle farther. The game mode features such maps as Wakanda: Hall of Djalia, Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya, and Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface.

That’s all about game modes in Marvel Rivals. We sure can expect more of them to be added to the game in the future. Stick around on esports.gg for all Marvel Rivals news and updates.
