You do-Naut want to miss out on this new mob in Minecraft.
The Nautilus is an upcoming aquatic mob in the Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem update. It’s not just a cute mob you can tame in the game - it can also help explore the vast ocean biome. While riding this mob, you gain an extra buff that lets you stay underwater indefinitely. This can be a game-changer in the early game, as you won’t need to brew potions or get enchantments just to stay underwater without losing oxygen.
With that said, let’s dive into what we know about the new Nautilus mob in the Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem update.
What we know about the Nautilus in Minecraft
The Nautilus already existed in Minecraft before its reveal in the Minecraft LIVE September 2025 stream. However, you can’t find it as a mob, but only its shell. The Nautilus Shell is an important crafting material to make a conduit, which lets you breathe underwater indefinitely.
New mob you can tame

In the upcoming Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem update, the Nautilus finally comes to life. It will be a new mount that you can tame using pufferfish. They typically eat all kinds of fish. But pufferfish is their favourite food. This means you can regenerate their health by feeding them any fish you happen to have in your inventory.
Upon riding, this mob grants the Breath of the Nautilus effect that stops your oxygen bar from depleting. They can also move very fast underwater, perfect for exploring ocean biomes. Keep in mind that it won’t replenish your oxygen. You can ride it up above sea level, but these mobs don’t survive on land for too long and will need to get back on water. The Breath of the Nautilus effect is not meant to replace water breathing. However, it’s a good alternative if you want to do some aquatic exploration in the early game.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the Nautilus also has a dash mechanic. It’s a handy mechanic if you want to cover distances quickly. You can also use it above water level and jump like a dolphin. I’m not sure what the purpose of doing that is, but I’m pretty sure the community will find a good use for that eventually.
If you want more Nautilus, you can also breed them by feeding them pufferfish. It's unclear if they drop Nautilus shells upon death. If so, this can be a good way to farm this material in the game so you can build conduits.
Nautilus armors

If you love exploring in Minecraft, you might come across some Nautilus armor in treasure chests. You can find them in different tiers, like Copper, Iron, Gold, and even Netherite. These armors also change the color of their shells, so they are not just for utility; they can also be decorative.
Unfortunately, you can’t craft any of these armors in the game. You will have to go out and explore the world if you want to find these armors. It’s not yet confirmed where, specifically, you can find these. Most likely, you can find Nautilus armor in shipwrecks or buried treasures. We’ll have to wait for the Minecraft snapshot or preview to find out.
Zombie variant

You are not the only one who can ride these new mobs in the game. Drowned zombies in Minecraft can mount a zombie nautilus. It gets worse, considering how these underwater zombies can shoot tridents at you. This makes it harder for you to get rid of them as the nautilus moves very fast underwater.
