How to find Renly’s Tools for Finding the Forge in Path of Exile 2

A quest you'll receive midway through Act 1 in Path of Exile 2 is called "Finding the Forge," and it requires you to locate and bring back Renly's Tools. Renly, the blacksmith in the Clearfell Encampment, lost the tools and needs them to bring back the salvage bench in town. Once you find the tools and return them to Renly, the salvage bench becomes permanently unlocked for you in PoE2.

While going to find and return Renly's Tools sounds like a simple task, they aren't located in the easiest of spots. To learn exactly how to find Renly's Tools and complete the Finding the Forge quest in Path of Exile 2, keep reading the guide below.

Renly's Tools are located in the Ogham Village zone within Act 1 of PoE2. Ogham Village is the culmination of "The Mysterious Shade" quest and comes right after the Ogham Farmlands zone.

Ogham Village is one of the larger zones in Act 1, home to dozens of burning huts and narrow pathways. Unfortunately, we can't give you the exact location of Renly's Tools, as the layout of each zone is different for every player. Even if you try a second character, your zones likely won't be laid out the same way as they were with your first character.

What we can do is give you a description of what to look for when searching for Renly's Tools. Every time, regardless of your zone, Renly's Tools are located down a small pathway near a checkpoint, as seen in the map overlay screenshot below.

This was located on the eastern side of Ogham Village for us, but it might be different for you. After you find the checkpoint and go down the narrow path, you'll find a green item labeled "Smithing Tools." These are Renly's Tools, which you need to pick up and add to your inventory.

From here, you have a choice. You can either head back to Renly immediately or proceed on with whatever quest objective you have. It could be worth it to head back to Renly right away, especially if you're interested in respeccing your Passive Abilities before a major boss fight.

You'll eventually head back to Clearfell Encampment before the end of Act 1, though, so you'll have an opportunity to complete the Finding the Forge quest. Even if you're in Act 2, you can always use the waypoint system to fast travel back to Act 1's locations.

When you hand in Renly's Tools, the Finding the Forge quest will be complete. Now, you can access the salvage bench, which allows you to salvage gear in exchange for raw materials. However, not every gear piece can be salvaged; only pieces of quality and those that have been identified can be salvaged in Path of Exile 2.
