Get set to take down Gigantamax Lapras with our Max Battle Guide.
Gigantamax Pokémon are debuting thick and fast into Pokémon GO recently. We saw Gigantamax Toxtricity debut during the GO Wild Area, following Gigantamax Gengar and others previously arriving into the game. Next to debut is Gigantamax Lapras, which arrives during a special Gigantamax Max Battle Day on Sunday, December 8. Battles will be avaliable between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. local time.
The issue is, Gigantamax Max battles are incredibly hard to take down. Gigantamax Pokémon are very powerful, and you will need a lot of help to win one of these Max Battles. So, you'll want to be prepared.
Here's everything you need to know before you battle Gigantamax Lapras in Pokémon GO!
How many trainers do I need to beat Gigantamax Lapras in Pokémon GO?
There has been a lot of complaints about the difficulty of Gigantamax Max Battles in Pokémon GO. Niantic made some adjustments after the debut weekend, and they have been a bit easier to do since then.
This weekend, these battles are even easier, if you are prepared to pay. Niantic have introduced a brand new item to help with Max Battles, the Max Mushroom.
If you are in a battle with Trainers using a Max Mushroom, and if you are using one yourself, these Gigantamax Lapras battles will be easier, and use less Trainers. However, this item is pretty expensive and you can't expect people to be using it.
So, you should be aiming for at least 15 Trainers to take on Gigantamax Lapras in Pokémon GO.
There is some flexibility in this number, because there are quite a few different variables. The most important one is do those Trainers have good counters, with levelled up Max Moves. If some people in each team of four have Max Shield or Max Spirit that will make the battle a lot easier. If Trainers are using ineffective Pokémon, you will need a bigger group.
Gigantamax Lapras Weakness
Gigantamax Lapras has a weakness to Electric, Fighting, Grass and Rock-type attacks. It has a resistance to Water-type attacks, and a double resistance to Ice-type attacks.

Best Gigantamax Lapras Counters
While we are limited in the number of Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon we have avaliable at the moment, Niantic always make sure we have a few counters. That is why we have seen the debut of Dynamax Machop, the first Fighting-type Pokémon avaliable in Max Battles.
So, here are the five best Pokémon you can use to take on Gigantamax Lapras this Sunday:
Gigantamax Toxtricity Spark & G-Max Stun Shock | Gigantamax Venusaur Vine Whip & G-Max Vine Lash | Gigantamax Gengar Lick & G-Max Terror | Dynamax Machamp Counter & Dynamic Punch | Dynamax Rillaboom Razor Leaf & Grass Knot |
As always, if you have a different Pokémon, for example Dynamax Metagross, that has higher level Max Moves (especially Spirit or Shield) then these will also be very worth using to protect your teammates even if they don't have attacks that directly counter Gigantamax Lapras and its weaknesses.
Pokémon GO Gigantamax Max Battle tips
You absolutely need to be coordinated to win this Gigantamax Lapras Battle in Pokémon GO. Get onto Campfire, see if you have a local Community Ambassador or any other Trainers nearby. Then, in battle, you'll need to keep coordinated too. Have some Trainers use shields and healing each turn, and others attack. Ideally you want one shield, one healer and two attackers per group of four.
Additionally, you should avoid using your Charged Attacks in battle. This might seem weird when compared to Raids, however Charged Attacks take longer and don't build the Max Meter any faster.
Dodging attacks is still possible, and can be make or break if you are low on numbers. Try and keep your best Pokémon alive for as long as possible.
You should also save up your Max Particles on Saturday , to have as many as possible. The collection limit is being raised across the Max Battle Day. If you have the event ticket, this will be raised to 5,600.
Make sure you have good counters (if possible) and also reserve your best Pokémon for the end of the Raid. The Max Meter will charge faster at the end of the Battle. This is because once all your Pokémon are knocked out, you can stay involved in the Raid by cheering. Cheering helps the Max Meter charge faster. So, if you don't have the best counters you can still contribute to your team's success.
If you have good Dynamax Pokémon in Power Spots, you might want to consider recalling them.
Good luck taking on Gigantamax Lapras in Pokémon GO, Trainer. Stay tuned to esports.gg for the latest esports news and more Pokémon GO guides.
