Wondering if you could put your prized Pokémon from other games into Legends: Z-A and vice versa?

Since the release of Pokémon Legends Z-A in October, many players are quite curious if they can use Pokémon HOME for transferring new Pokémon to the game.

Pokémon HOME is a cloud service where Trainers can store some of their Pokémon from various mainline games, specifically those playable on the Nintendo Switch. It is the successor to the Pokémon Bank, another online storage system designed for the Nintendo 3DS games.

This post will cover the current answer behind Pokémon HOME’s compatibility with Pokémon Legends: Z-A, including some other rules that new HOME users should know.

As of writing, Pokémon HOME is not available for Pokémon Legends: Z-A players. Although the cloud service is already working for the Switch 2 console, Nintendo confirmed as early as September that Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s HOME connectivity is scheduled sometime in 2026.

But, there were a few caveats that interested HOME users should be aware of.

Limits for using Pokémon HOME in Legends: Z-A

We all know that Pokémon HOME has some built-in restrictions to prevent players from steamrolling their way through the story with strong Pokémon. Unfortunately, the cloud service will introduce additional limitations once it links with Pokémon Legends: Z-A in 2026.

  • All Pokémon from Legends Z-A can’t be transferred to earlier titles via HOME. However, the same rule can’t be said with future games (Gen 10 and beyond).
  • Once you transfer a Pokémon from an older game to Legends: Z-A, you won’t be able to transfer it back to older games as well.
  • You can only transfer a Pokémon to Legends: Z-A if that Pokémon is a part of Legends: Z-A’s Pokédex.

Best uses of linking using Pokémon HOME

Despite all the limits imposed on Pokémon HOME, using it remains a good idea, especially now that Nintendo Switch 2 is already out and the Gen 10 games are looming on the horizon.

If you have some unused Pokémon in other games like Pokémon GO, next year is definitely the best time to try their might (as long as they’re compatible) in the infinite Z-A Royale. There’s also an upcoming DLC for Legends: Z-A, which could potentially expand the number of worthy Pokémon that you can transfer in the game.

As for future releases, consider storing some of your favorite shiny Pokémon in Legends: Z-A and hope they’ll make the jump to the next generation of games. Fan favorites like Charizard and other Pokémon with new Mega Evolutions have a good chance of being added to the roster.
