You might be a bit confused when looking at a Combee in Pokémon GO. Most Combee won't even have the option to evolve, which is strange when we know that Vespiquen exists in the game. So, what is going on?

There isn't an evolution trick here like we see with other Pokémon. Really, it's quite simple but isn't actually directly explained in the game. Only female Combee can evolve in Pokémon GO.

Once you have a female Combee in the game the evolution is the standard for the game. You need 50 Combee candy to do the evolution with no other tricks needed to get Vespiquen.

The question then is, how can you find a female Combee in the game? Obviously the answer could be to just catch every Combee, which isn't that bad given it awards a huge amount of Stardust. However, there is actually a very easy method to find a female Combee without even having to click on it.

Female Combee have a red marking on the lowest of their three heads, as you can see below in the centre.

That red marking appears on Combee in the wild. This means if you are trying to evolve Combee in Pokémon GO, you can easily hunt the specific Combee that you need for your collection.

That said, female Combee are significantly less common in the game than the male version. So, be prepared to have to go on a little bit of a hunt for one. Of course, as we said previously, the boosted Stardust always makes Combee a worthwhile catch in the Pokémon GO regardless of if it can evolve or not.
