The Oil Drill isn’t just a simple decoration but a vital tool in keeping yourself alive, with all the hostile NPCs who want a piece of you. So, here is everything to know about the Oil Drill and how you can use it to your advantage.

The Oil Drill is a craftable item that you can access upon unlocking tier 4 of the crafting bench. Once installed, it will start drilling into the ground, occasionally producing an Oil Barrel on its own. This is why you’ll start seeing some Oil Barrels scattered around your camp if you leave your Oil Drill alone for minutes.

If the campfire goes out, monsters such as the Deer can enter your camp and attack. Among all burnable items in the game, Oil Barrels are the most effective at keeping your campfire alive for a long time.

Of course, you can just go around the map and explore various areas for Oil Barrels, but they can be a rare find, and you usually do not have enough daytime to search for them. So, the Oil Drill is a staple item as soon as you reach crafting bench tier 4.

How to get the Oil Drill fast

If you want to rush the Oil Drill, the best approach is to keep upgrading your crafting bench by gathering as many logs and scraps as possible. You may need to skip crafting other essential items along the way, but you can still build the Biofuel Processor, which works as a weaker version of the Oil Drill and helps in maintaining a healthy life for your campfire.

Aside from logs and scraps, crafting bench tier 4 also requires two Cultist Gems, which you can obtain by defeating cultists. You are guaranteed one Cultist Gem either by successfully defending your camp during a cultist night attack or by raiding a cultist base or stronghold.
