Borderlands is coming back to deliver more mayhem, hijinks, and, most importantly, loot.

Borderlands 4 finally has more than just teaser images to showcase. At The Game Awards 2024, Borderlands 4 received a full trailer that showcased some of the new locations, loot, and characters you can expect to see in the fourth installment of the iconic shooter.

Up until this point, all we had for Borderlands 4 was a short trailer that debuted at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August of 2024. Now, after The Game Awards, the stage is set for the release of Borderlands 4 in 2025 thanks to a new trailer and details on the story. You can view the trailer and other details about Borderlands 4 below.

Borderlands 4 Game Awards trailer

The trailer showcases an apparent war happening between two sides on a new planet called Kairos. We see some shots of the new protagonists as well as other side characters. The trailer also showcases new vehicles, different areas of the planet you can explore, and a teaser for a vault being opened.

This is the first major piece of news we've received about Borderlands 4 up to this point. Developer Gearbox Software has remained tight-lipped about the upcoming looter shooter until now. However, Gearbox did state Borderlands 4 is set to be the most ambitious title in the series to date. We're not sure exactly how the developers plan to innovate on the proven Borderlands formula as of yet, but the trailer certainly looks enticing.

Aside from the trailer, it's confirmed that the fourth Borderlands title will feature the new Kairos planet that houses several large locations. This is similar to how Borderlands 2 and 3 operated in relation to how the maps are laid out and navigated. It's unclear if the different zones in Borderlands 4 will be larger or work any differently from the previous games, though.

There is also a new enemy afoot in the Borderlands universe, called the Timekeeper. We saw a brief snippet of the Timekeeper at the end of the trailer and they appear to be guarding/threatening a vault located on Kairos. The Timekeeper rules over a faction called The Order. In addition to the Timekeeper, there's another faction on the planet, called the Rippers, who have a queen named Callis. The Rippers and The Order are the two sides engaged in war at the start of the trailer.

Finally, we've yet to see too many details about the characters you can play as in Borderlands 4. It's likely additional trailers will go into that part of the game as a release date for the game draws closer. We do know, however, that Claptap will make an appearance at the very least.

Borderlands 4 is set to release sometime in 2025, but an exact launch date hasn't been provided as of now.
