Scrapyard, Highrise, and more are set to return in MW3 as playable maps.

With the inevitable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 reveal looming, various sources have confirmed that all 16 classic Modern Warfare 2 maps from the 2009 installment will return. Fan favorites like Scrapyard, Terminal, Highrise, and the rest will be fully playable MW3 maps. Esports.gg can confirm this report is accurate after enrolling in the MW3 texting service.

This news is critical amid criticism toward Activision for charging a premium price for a "carry-over" game from Modern Warfare 2. Many fans have called for these maps to return for some time, and Sledgehammer has granted that wish.

Whether it's pure nostalgia or not, long-time Call of Duty fans have a particular allegiance to the original Modern Warfare 2. That game represents a simpler time in gaming before the series underwent massive changes, such as the advancement movement.

As a result, Activision and Sledgehammer Games are leaning into nostalgia for this year's title. We enrolled in the Modern Warfare 3 text service using the number 202-918-3022.

Following a report from Charlie Intel, Esports.gg followed suit and confirmed that texting each of the 16 classic maps to that number reveals a response. This response confirms various MW3 maps.

The number answers back with the same map names in all caps beside a location marker. Here is a look at all of the maps we were able to confirm for MW3:

  • Afghan
  • Derail
  • Estate
  • Favela
  • Highrise
  • Invasion
  • Karachi
  • Quarry
  • Rundown
  • Scrapyard
  • Ruse
  • Skidrow
  • Sub Base
  • Terminal
  • Underpass
  • Wasteland

Modern Warfare 3 will launch on November 10, with the worldwide reveal ending on August 17. We expect the reveal to include these MW3 maps and more information about the game, mechanics, and Warzone 2.
