The second weekend of the MW2 beta is here. Here’s all the information on things you can expect from the second week of testing.

The second weekend of the Modern Warfare 2 beta is here and now all players will have the chance to try out the new game. The MW2 beta will be the last chance for players to test out the game ahead of the October 28 release of the game.

The biggest change coming this weekend will be the number of players that will hit the servers. This weekend's beta test is available to players of all platforms. Last weekend's play was just available to PlayStation players.

Thursday, September 22 and Friday, September 23 will remain to be exclusively available to players who have either pre-ordered MW2 or redeemed a beta code of the Call of Duty website.

Players can now reach as high as level 30, with the reward of the "Frontal Impact" blueprint for reaching the level cap in the beta. It is a legendary variant of the TAQ-56 (SCAR) Assault Rifle.

Modes available to play in Modern Warfare 2 Beta Week 2

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • Invasion
  • Prisoner Rescue
  • Knockout
  • 3rd-person moshpit

Staple modes TDM and Domination return from Week 1, with the two modes being featured in Call of Duty for years. Those two traditional modes will be available alongside new additions Invasion, Prisoner Rescue and Knockout. Invasion is a reworking of the classic mode Ground War.

A 3rd-person moshpit mode is also available. This will include TDM, Domination and Hardpoint. Search and Destroy was available in the first weekend of gameplay and will likely return later in the weekend. Classic Hardpoint will be playable this weekend too for the first time in this game cycle.

Maps available to play in Modern Warfare 2 Beta Week 2

  • Valderas Museum
  • Farm 18
  • Invasion
  • Mercado Las Almas
  • Breenbergh Hotel

The map pool for the second week of the beta remains unchanged. This is the point that Hotel may have been added but it needed to be included last weekend after the premature removal of Museum.

Museum, Farm 18, Hotel and Mercado Las Almas are the traditional 6v6 maps with Invasion being the Ground War-style 32v32 offering. This will also expand as the weekend goes on with more being on offer to players this time round.

New leaks have suggested that a map resembling Pavlov will be added to the game for the full release. It's unlikely that we will see it included in the beta, though. New maps may need to be introduced after Call of Duty deleted all mention of the Marina Bay Grand Prix map.

New weapons added

  • Signal .50
  • Fennec
  • Lochwood MK.2
  • Lachman 762
  • PILA

With the level cap being increased from 15 to 30, a new range of weaponry is available for players to unlock. The Lachman 762 Assault rifle will be the first to be unlocked at level 16.

The .50 caliber Signal sniper rifle will be available from level 20, with gunsmithing options available for the gun from start of play on Thursday.

A trio of returning weapons from Modern Warfare (2019) are also now available to unlock with the PILA rocket launcher (level 22), Lockman MK.2 marksman rifle (level 23) and the Fennec SMG (level 25), now free to use.

The last of the guns to be unlocked in the beta will be the JOKR rocket launcher. Another one coming back from old games, this one will track and lock-on to any of your opponent's flying killstreaks.

Changes not coming

Infinity Ward posted an update to the community on Tuesday, September 20. They addressed some of the biggest feedback points from the first weekend of the Modern Warfare 2 beta. The biggest takeaway from the blog post was that the minimap will continue to not have red dots on it when players are shooting their unsuppressed weapons.

The perk system, which has had players frustrated with its new style, will also remain in its current guise. Dead Silence will also remain to be a field upgrade and not part of the perk system.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta is available all weekend, up until September 26. Open access to the beta begins on Saturday, September 24.
