There could be up to 160 camos in Modern Warfare 2 to unlock in multiplayer.

In previous Call of Duty games, camos for weapons have been unlocked by completing multiplayer challenges. This will like remain the same in the release of MW2.

The unlockable camos available in Modern Warfare 2 have been leaked by multiple sources including eColiEspresso on YouTube.

The camo leaks include several reused camos from Modern Warfare (2019), although they are probably only in the game as a placeholder before the release of the full game on October 28.

The leaked camos were accessed using a bug in the Campaign-only version of MW2. Players could accidentally get access to camo menus by brute forcing their way through the menus of the game. This has now been patched by Infinity Ward.

What are the MW2 camos?

The camos have been sorted into categories, just with other games previously in the franchise. Each of these will sort themselves into a separate challenge used to unlock them.

There are 15 different camo sets that have been leaked and each has a total of 12 camos in it according to the leaks. 13 of those sets will be unlockable in MW2 multiplayer.

That would mean that there are 156 camos for players to unlock during Modern Warfare 2. That would be a significant increase to how much players will need to grind for the aesthetic changes to their weapons.

The categories for MW2 camos:

  • Spray Paint
  • Woodland
  • Digital
  • Dragon
  • Geometric
  • Fun
  • Tiger
  • Stripes
  • Reptile
  • Skulls
  • Solid Colours
  • Foliage
  • Classic
  • Completionist
  • Special

Mastery camos

Mastery camos are always ones to get excited about. They are the carrot on the end of the stick that is the mammoth grind of fully developing every single weapon in the game. In order to unlock mastery camos in Call of Duty games, players need to full level up every weapon in the game and then get every single camo on every single weapon.

It's a grind that only very few achieve legitimately. In the last few years, hacking tools have been able to give players access to these camos without the grind behind it.

The leak included the mastery camos for MW2. They are the holy grail of grinding in the new game and they look befitting of that title. According to leaks there will be four mastery camos in the game.

  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • "Shattered Dark Matter lookalike"

Players unlock the gold camo for weapons by completing every single camo challenge for an individual weapon. Players get platinum camos for unlocking gold on every single weapon in a specific class. Infinity Ward will use one of the other two camos as their "overall completion" camo.

Players unlock it by obtaining platinum camo for every class of weapon in the game. The other camo will be the MW2-equivalent of MW (2019)'s Obsidian camo. It will have its own unique challenge that players have to complete after unlocking gold.

CDL camo leak

Each year, the 12 teams of the Call of Duty League have an in-game camo to represent their team. These are always released alongside an operator skin featuring the team's branding. All 12 of the CDL skins were leaked by The Rotation.

The account posted a screenshot of all 12 of the camos next to each other. Some of them are quite hard to tell which team they belong to.

Fan reaction to new camo leaks

The new leaks of the MW2 camos have the opinions of fans split. Some really love the fact that the CDL camos in particular, look so clean and simple. Others have asked for a return to the Black Ops 3-style crazily complex camo.

Some fans would rather see teams be able to design their camos themselves, rather than have one template for them all.

As with every year, some camos are far nicer than others but there are definitely more good camos than bad ones to look forward to as we approach the full release of MW2.
