Betboom replaced by 3DMAX at IEM Cologne

IEM Cologne 2024 is just days away and ESL have announced BetBoom will not be able to make it to the event due to visa issues. Replacing them on the squad will be 3DMAX 

IEM Cologne is fast approaching and BetBoom team will not be able to attend the event. The squad has been unable to receive its visas in time for the event that kicks off on August 7, 2024. 

3DMAX will compete in the IEM Cologne 2024 Play-In stage as they are the next best team in the ESL World Ranking. ESL decided on 3DMAX after following their tournament replacement rules as outlined on this page.

Unfortunately, @BetBoomTeam have been unable to obtain visas to travel to #IEM Cologne and have been replaced by @3DMAXGaming as the next eligible team based on our Team Replacement Rules.

3DMAX’s first match will be against 9Z in the Play-In stage. The team recently participated in the Skyesports Championship 2024 in India. Despite some initial hiccups, the team managed to secure the victory shortly after BetBoom decided to skip the event after Day 1. 3DMAX lost just one match in the entire tournament, in the group stage against Eternal Fire. It was a closely contested match that ended with a 14-16 loss for 3DMAX. 

This announcement comes after Heroic's Degster also faced visa issues to attend the event. After initial reports of Degster potentially missing out on a few matches at Cologne, it was revealed that he will miss out on the entire event.

IEM Cologne kicks off on August 7 and features 24 of the best Counter-Strike teams in action. The event features a double-elimination format for the group stage followed by the Main event that takes place in the LANXESS Arena. The tournament will stream on Twitch and you can stay updated with all the latest scores here. The winner of IEM Cologne secures an invite to IEM Cologne 2025 as well as to the BLAST Premier World Finals later this year.
