What is the tournament format?
The BLAST Austin Major format is determined by Valve and will feature four different stages. The final stage of the tournament is the Playoff, which will decide the winner. Here’s a breakdown of each stage and the format for the stage.
Stage 1
- Sixteen team Swiss System format
- Elimination and advancement matches are a best-of-three (Bo3) series
- All other matches are best-of-one (Bo1)
- The top eight teams move ahead to Stage 2
- The bottom eight teams face elimination
Stage 2
- Sixteen team Swiss System format
- Elimination and advancement matches are Bo3
- All other matches are Bo1
- The top eight teams move ahead to Stage 3
- The bottom eight teams face elimination
The final stage also follows a similar pattern, allowing the top teams to filter out to the next stage.
Stage 3
- Sixteen team Swiss system format
- Elimination and Advancement matches are Bo3
- All other matches are Bo1
- The top eight teams advance to the Playoffs
- The bottom eight teams are eliminated from the event

Prize Pool and Distribution

Which teams will participate in the Austin Major?
There are 32 teams in the Major. Half of the teams will receive invites based on their Valve Regional Standings (VRS). The remaining teams will have to qualify for the Major via various regional qualifiers. We will update this article once the list of teams is announced.
