Valve’s latest update both fixed and broke the game — and players aren’t impressed.

CS2 developer Valve is back in the office for the year, issuing a minor Jan. 8 patch with a few miscellaneous fixes including weapon models and ragdoll physics. However, a few bugs slipped the net, with one notable issue seeing players' character models flying into the air.

Ragdoll physics have been a point of note since CS2 launched with the issue popping up time and time again. Alongside the ragdoll bug, Valve also made a change to weapon inspection delay — sending the community into a frenzy.

Comical CS2 ragdoll bug strikes first CS2 update of 2025

The Jan. 8 update for CS2 arrived in the late hours of the day. Apart from a clean-up of an Inferno clipping issue, the CS2 update was small: six patch notes total, and most of them bug fixes for ragdoll problems and weapon models.

One such fix was for "regression in grenade interactions with ragdolls." It's not clear whether this issue has actually been fixed, however, as the update has broken regular ragdolls. Many players have reported enemy characters flying into the air upon death, and while it's certainly comical, it's not the ideal start to the year Valve would have hoped for CS2.

"I think their 'fixed a regression in ragdolls' added 10 more regressions in ragdolls...," one player said. It has little effect on gameplay but is certainly a distraction CS2 players don't need. At the same time there's nothing like seeing an enemy character fly thousands of feet into the air thanks to a simple headshot.

The other mechanic broken today hasn't amused CS2 fans. Inspecting a weapon — previously possible the moment you pull out a weapon — now has a one to two second delay. The withdraw weapon animation must be completed before an inspect can be made.

Again, delayed weapon inspections isn't a major gameplay issue, but between the broken physics, the ragdolls, and this, CS2 players aren't impressed. We probably won't need to wait long for a fix for both issues, but in the meantime, there's plenty of laughs in seeing player models fly into the stratosphere on-kill.
