A promising youngster in a team full of superstars.

MalbsMd joined G2 esports in June this year and the 21-year-old rifler has already reached the Grand Finals of one of the most competitive events of the year. G2 esports were a part of one of the most intense and competitive series of the event so far against Team Vitality. They emerged victorious in this epic battle that saw tables being broken, emotions running high and a packed Forum Copenhagen go wild. Esports.gg caught up with MalbsMd after their astounding victory to talk about the series and the team.

MalbsMd's on Breaking tables: "I always smash the mousepad, you know. That's the pro tip"

esports.gg: MalbsMd Congratulations. How does it feel now that you've snuck out such a close win?

MalbsMd: It feels very good. My second final with them was obviously very good. In front of the crowd, it was better. So I feel really happy and super proud of course.

esports.gg: The arena was going absolutely crazy during this game. Mass applause, people were really getting behind you. Can you feel the energy when you're up on stage and does it help?

MalbsMd: Yeah, it does of course. You can hear people screaming, shouting and everything. It feels super good and it hypes you up.

esports.gg: Obviously, I have to ask you about the desk, NiKo, the bleeding. What were the comms like when he did that, when he realized it was bleeding? What do you even say in that situation to each other?

MalbsMd: Honestly, I didn't even know. It was just ... I don't know what happened. He lost the clutch and then I think I heard he smashed the table, but I didn't think it came to the point that he broke it. Then out of nowhere, I hear mONESY screaming "NiKo you broke it. We were all laughing. I thought he was joking at first that he broke it. I'm on the other side of the table, it's hard for me to tell, but of course, it was funny.

esports.gg: Have you ever damaged a table that bad yourself?

MalbsMd: Not really. I always smash the mousepad you know. That's the pro tip.

esports.gg: Much more financially responsible decision, right?

MalbsMd: (Laughs) Yea. But he's NiKo so who cares. (laughs)

esports.gg: Historically, people have said about G2 that you haven't been the team with the strongest mindset. But in this match, you really showed incredible grit, to push to overtime, to close that gap, and eke out ahead. What are you attributing that mental strength to?

MalbsMd: I think we are all chill, everyone can tell. That's normal, we're humans. But I feel like just by us having a really good group, it makes us chill, and even though you can tell we bring the good vibes and everything. I'm always laughing for the team, TaZ is always cheering at the back, Janusz is always there. I think we just add up a lot. Being a good group is the secret for us.

MalbsMd on the G2 superstars

esports.gg: I wanted to ask about NiKo. His individual performance today was really strong with some really really big moments. What is it like knowing that your star player is in such good form? Does that give everybody confidence?

MalbsMd: Yeah, this guy is insane. This is the first day I've enjoyed playing every single moment with him. The way he calls, the way he plays, the way he shoots, this guy is insane. I'm super proud of playing next to him. He's really good of course.

esports.gg: Obviously, your team is full of stars. Not just NiKo, Snax is one of the most iconic names in Counter-Strike. An absolute OG of the scene. What is it like to help bring him back to the spotlight. Do you feel like you're really helping him bring back a renaissance maybe?

MalbsMd: Yeah we hope so. He has had his moments. He's been getting some multi-frags. He's bringing it back. So I think he's doing really good and we really hope he can come back as well. Back to his form of 2014-15, because he was really good. I know he can bounce back.

esports.gg: Obviously, now you will go and prepare for the finals tomorrow. How is the confidence levels, how are you feeling, is there a team you would prepare to face tomorrow?

MalbsMd: Hahaha. I don't know. I want to say for the memes but honestly, I don't care. Everyone was talking about the lose streak we had and everything. And then we had fans in the beginning talking s*** about us and NiKo.

I think they wanted to mess with us that's why they did that. I don't really care. Whoever we have to face tomorrow is going to be fine. We just  have to prepare better and do what we actually know how to do. We just got to play our game.

esports.gg: Congratulations on the win today. Good Luck tomorrow.

With this victory, G2 esports now move on to the Grand Finals of the BLAST Premier Fall Finals. They will face the winner of the other semifinal series - the match between NAVI and FaZe Clan. Counter-Strike fans can catch the Grand Finals live on Twitch here.
