It’s the first time China will host a Counter-Strike Major ever since Valve started hosting Majors in 2013.

Perfect World has announced the Shanghai Major for 2024. The announcement was made on the final day of the CS Asia Championships 2023. It will be the second CS2 Major for 2024 with the first one taking place in Copenhagen in March next year.

The Shanghai Major will be the first time a Counter-Strike Major will take place in China ever since Valve starting the Major cycle back in 2013. Over the years, the Counter-Strike Majors have taken place in Europe, North America and South America, but never in China.

Perfect World Esports will be the host and organizer of the second Counter-Strike 2 Major of 2024, to be held in Shanghai, China.

When will the Shanghai Major take place?

The Shanghai Major will take place in December 2024. It will feature some of the best CS2 teams from all over the world competing for the prestige of being a Major winner. The exact dates for the Shanghai Major are not yet public, although reports mention they will take place in the first half of December 2024.

Perfect World is not a stranger when it comes to organizing events in China. The tournament organizer has hosted the Perfect World Arena Premier League and more recently the CS Asia Championship.

The announcement came on the final day of the CS Asia Championship 2023. The tournament had a $500,000 prize pool and FaZe Clan emerged as the winners. FaZe took down MOUZ in the Grand Finals 2-0 to take home the majority of the prize pool.

There’s plenty of enthusiasm for the Counter-Strike 2 Major in Shanghai. With CS2 taking a hold in the Asian country, and the region, in general, there’s hope the Shanghai Major will boost the game’s popularity in the region. Meanwhile, the other popular FPS title, VALORANT will also host a Major in Shanghai next year.

Counter-Strike 2 released on September 27 and has improved graphics, a new sub-tick system as well as MR13 format for esports events. The game developer is constantly updating the game to make it esports-ready amidst criticism about the game's readiness for competitive play.
