One of the most storied Dota 2 orgs might exit the Dota 2 esports scene.

Evil Geniuses is one of the most popular organizations in Dota 2, but their time in the game may be coming to an end. After the conclusion of TI12, Evil Geniuses players are reportedly heading into free agency. Meanwhile, the org has laid off multiple employees today, according to multiple reports.

EG Dota 2 roster to part ways with org

As per a post by the Dota 2 team’s social media manager, the South American roster will allegedly not continue with the organization. There has been no official confirmation from EG or any of the players just yet.

The current roster signed with the org last year post-TI11. The team finished TI12 in 13-16th place losing to Gaimin Gladiators. The org has not had a very successful year in international tournaments. Despite consistently placing in the top two in South American DPC Leagues, when it comes to international events, the South American roster was unable to find success.

They had a 17-18th place finish at the Bali Major followed by a 9-10th place finish at Riyadh Masters. A group stage exit from DreamLeague S21 and an early exit from TI12 meant their current season came to an end without much success.

Multiple layoffs at Evil Geniuses

Earlier today, Evil Geniuses saw multiple layoffs at the company. This is the third instance of layoffs at Evil Geniuses this year. Multiple employees have come forward on social media to reveal the layoffs, with some hinting at more layoffs to come.

Former Evil Geniuses manager, Guashineen, said it is very unlikely EG will have a Dota 2 roster next year. If true, this would mark the exit of one of the biggest orgs from the Dota 2 esports scene.

The current layoffs come weeks after the org also parted ways with FGC player SonicFox. The other top South American Dota 2 roster, beastcoast, has also parted ways with its org. This means the top two stacks from the region are now without an organization.

Evil Geniuses is an org that has become synonymous with Dota 2 and in particular American Dota. The org has been a part of Dota 2 since the game’s earliest years. After securing top-tier placements in the earliest Internationals, they finally won the coveted title in 2015. The past two years have been some of their worst performances at The International. The Post-TI time in Dota 2 esports is one of uncertainty with roster shuffles and players changing teams.
