PGL Esports copyright strikes popular Dota 2 Channels NoobFromUA and DoTA Digest cover image

Pillars of the Dota 2 community: NoobFromUA and DoTA Digest have been copyright striked by PGL Esports.

Popular Dota 2 YouTube channel NoobFromUA and DoTA Digest have received various copyright strikes from PGL Esports. The two channels are well known in the Dota 2 community for uploading replays and highlights of major Dota 2 matches. However, earlier today both channels received copyright strikes. The strikes were sent in by PGL Esports, a well known tournament organizer and production company. The Dota 2 community is fearful of what will happen to the two community driven channels.

UPDATE: NoobFromUA reveals that the issue has been resolved.

PGL also posted a statement regarding the issue. The tournament organizer mentioned that it "constantly monitors various platforms and channels for any unauthorized PGL content. However, (PGL) has no intention of taking down entire YouTube channels."

It further offered a solution to this issue: "We've spotted some hiccups in our process and have made changes for the better. If you're a content creator keen on using PGL-owned content, we'd love to hear from you directly."

PGL Copyright strikes NoobfromUA and Dota Digest

NoobFromUA has been an icon of the Dota 2 community for more than a decade. The channel has always been a most popular place to watch game recaps other than the Dota 2 client itself. The Youtube channel would post the highlights of any tournament level match. From 2013's Alliance Vs Tong Fu to Betboom Dacha's grand final. The same goes for DoTA Digest. Although the channel is younger, they both accomplish similar goals in highlighting key Dota matches. However PGL's copyright strike threatens both channels.

However, in a now since removed tweet from NoobFromUA, both channels explained that they received Copyright Strikes from PGL Esports. With regards to DoTA Digest, they received four strikes from the production company. The point of contention regarding the NoobfromUA and DoTA Digest copyright situation is how the highlights are recorded. Either through the Youtube stream or through the Dota 2 Client.

DoTA Digest explains that "I only used content from Dota 2 game client (DotaTV). I did not use PGL's twitch/youtube. I'm using Valve content, not PGL content. Only Valve has rights to their game, PGL has no rights to the game." However, in the official Dota 2 community stream policy might say otherwise. It's currently a highly debated topic within the community. With Dota 2 players explaining the various nuiannces of PGL's copyright strike.

As of February 26th, both channels are still active and posting the same, quality content they have been. So for now, the Dota 2 community will just have to wait in anticipation to see how this PGL copyright strike situation further develops.
