Nouns steps out of the Dota 2 scene: NA has only one team left

The last NA hope’s future is uncertain. Nouns’ Dota 2 division is out of the competitive scene, and the players are still not clear on what’s the next step for them.

Dota 2 remains a growing esport, with new teams like AVULUS and Palianytsia rising in the European scene. Players like Satanic and Fortniteman keep the community’s interest in newcomers alive. South America recently claimed its first international title as HEROIC dominated Falcons at the PGL Wallachia S2.

However, North America has been facing its worst season in years. With the announcement of Nouns’ departure from the Dota 2 competitive scene, Shopify Rebellion will now be the only sponsored team competing in the region. This decision comes after a last-place finish at the DreamLeague S24, a disappointing result for the only team representing NA in Tier 1 international tournaments.

On their official announcement, the team states that "Dota 2 is as demanding as it is rewarding, both competitively and commercially." This suggests that the team needed the DreamLeague S24 money income to keep the operations going. Without a high placement, and due to the lack of sponsors, the team could not stand the costs of supporting the roster financially.

Their statement also says: "Our love for Dota remains strong, and with the right partner, we are open to a future return to the scene." Unfortunately, Nouns Dota 2 team is no longer competing following a lack of interest from brands in the pro scene.

Did Nouns disband their Dota 2 team?

After the announcement, Nicolas "Gunnar" Lopez took to X to say it's not clear if they will play the next ESL qualifiers together. He shared how grateful he feels for the journey from 4Zoomers (his first NA team after his comeback) to Nouns. Gunnar said that "If we can figure out how to make things work out for all of us, we will have to do some cooking for the team name."

It's clear that the team will now have to find a way to finance their next bootcamp. With the NA Closed Qualifiers for the ESL One Bangkok coming soon, the time is short. If the team doesn't find a way to play together, they may be forced to play Open Qualifiers, starting in Nov. 11.

From esports.gg, we hope the Nouns Dota 2 roster finds a new home soon. We will keep you updated on any updated information about the last NA hope. Keep following our Dota 2 coverage here!
