South America will host a $2 million Dota 2 league in 2024

ESB announced the Liga 2024 Dota 2 league. A series of tournaments will start on April 3, 2024.

ESB Dota 2's X account just shocked the whole Dota 2 community with a new league, starting in April 2024. Meet the next ESL's competition for the league's market. It's a format that not many tournament organizers are trying to push after Valve's Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) downfall.

ESB is not new to the scene; they hosted the South American DPC this year. Additionally, they are the official Spanish broadcast for various international events, including ESL One Kuala Lumpur. However, this marks the first time they've announced a massive product entirely crafted by them. It arrived just in time as the outlook seemed bleak due to the absence of confirmed and announced tournaments.

Is this league only for South American teams?

Such an investment may catch the eye of many international teams. Even though this is great news for South America, it's also great for every other team out there. ESB's original tweet stated that "we'll have the opportunity to feature the world's top teams."

No sponsors, partnerships, format, nor invited teams have been announced. However, we now know the dates and prize distribution for the three tours of Liga 2024.

  • Tour 1: April 3 to April 14: $500,000 USD
  • Tour 2: July 24 to Aug. 4: $500,000 USD
  • Tour 3: Nov. 27 to Dec. 6: $1,000,000 USD

What can we expect from Liga 2024?

The announcement image features one of Lima's most known landscapes by the sea plus a picture of The International (TI) 2014 in the old Key Arena. Is this a teaser of a possible LAN finals like the ones ESL hosts? With such big numbers on the line, we may be in front of another chance for Peru's amazingly hype crowd.
