AEW Revolution 2024 ratings: Garcia/Cage

Did anyone else think that Daniel Garcia was going to pull it out there at the end? The marker of a great match is swaying you on what you think the outcome might be. By the end, I truly thought Danny might pull it out. Alas, Edge Copeland's gotta get his win back. Rating: 3/5

Danielson/Kingston

On a night of truly great matches, Danielson and Kingston once again brought the house down early. Considering I thought this was going to be the end of Eddie's run, the ending caught me completely off guard. An emotional affair and just one of many absolutely must-see matches tonight. Rating: 5/5

All-Star Scramble

The mostly meatless All-Star Scramble was sort of a car crash from the start, but not in the fun way. A number of weird mistimings and botched spots made this an awkward viewing experience. Also, this feels like a course-correction for making the Undisputed Kingdom look less toothless after doing nothing since Cole's heel turn. I suppose the right guy won, but I don't really care for Wardlow in the title scene. Rating: 2/5

Strong/OC

I'm no Roddy hater, but this just didn't do anything for me. A strictly one-sided affair, this felt more like the "Orange Cassidy needs to go take some time off" match. It certainly made Strong look like his name, but it's nothing special. Also: What was with that Kyle O'Reilly appearance? Why did he look like he's been hiding in a barn for two years and living off of 4LOKO? Rating: 3/5

AEW Revolution 2024 ratings: FTR/BCC

I might just be getting tired of the Blackpool Combat Club, but this was yet another bout that left me looking at my phone every thirty seconds. Technically a "good" match in that it was physical and told the story it set to tell, but just not for me, personally. Tag League tournament for the soon-to-be vacated tag titles? Rating: 3.5/5

Storm/Purrazzo

The fake Toni Storm got me, so good on ya. Sadly, this was probably the high point of the match. Purrazzo just doesn't jive with me and this felt like a way to carry momentum until the 13th when Mercedes Mone arrives. The 'Timeless' gimmick still rocks, however. Rating: 2/5

Ospreay/Takeshita

Ooh boy, this is flavour country. I could have done without Ospreay being dropped on his head (in a spot that would end up being only the second most horrific of the night), but past that? Pure magic. These two have chemistry and I want to see it again. I also want to see what Will's back is going to look like tomorrow. Not as bad as Darby's, I'm sure. Rating: 5/5

AEW Revolution 2024 ratings: Joe/Swerve/Hangman

Can Hangman just beat up referees all the time now? I absolutely love the petulant nature of Hangman's "I don't care if I lose as long as YOU don't win" slow heel turn. It was a tough sell to get a crowd to side with the guy doing some light child-stalking, but the mad lads pulled it off. Joe continues to be a great bully. Bully for him. Rating: 4.5/5

Sting's Last Match

The best retirement send-off in professional wrestling, from start to finish. I didn't grow up as a Lil Stinger, but my appreciation for him was constant growing up in the Monday Night Wars. The EVPs were the perfect foils for this match and absolutely gave Sting the send-off that I'm guessing he resisted. However, in a story book ending you sometimes just have to give the people what they want. Now, pardon me while I look at videos of cats for the next week to wash the mental image of Darby's back out of my head. For real: The glass bump may have been the most horrifying spot of all time that didn't include a broken limb. Rating: 5/5
