Crunchyroll responds to hacked Crunchyroll Premium accounts situation

A Crunchyroll spokesperson stated that the affected accounts have been secured.

On Jan. 25, a Crunchyroll spokesperson addressed a recent issue that put affected Crunchyroll Premium accounts at risk.

Crunchyroll hacked response

In the response, the Crunchyroll spokesperson stated that the company is aware of the Crunchyroll login credentials being posted on social media. The spokesperson noted that login credentials for "multiple streaming services" were posted as well.

"We are aware that login credentials for several streaming services, including Crunchyroll, were posted on social media and have resolved the issue," the statement to Anime News Network read.

The statement continued, "The issue has been resolved, affected accounts have been secured, and there is no evidence of a compromise."

Crunchyroll Premium password changes encouraged

The spokesperson added that folks with Crunchyroll Premium accounts should "diversify and change passwords regularly and keep them confidential."

Then, the spokesperson concluded with a link to the company's help page on resetting Crunchyroll account passwords.

"We are aware that login credentials for several streaming services, including Crunchyroll, were posted on social media and have resolved the issue. We have secured the affected accounts, investigated the situation and determined that there is no evidence that Crunchyroll's systems have been compromised. Crunchyroll encourages subscribers to diversify and change passwords regularly and keep them confidential. Crunchyroll password reset

After acknowledging Crunchyroll's statement, some users on Reddit reported having trouble resetting their passwords. One proposed solution was to click the "Forgot Password?" button as a starting point.

That is, click the profile icon in the top-right corner of Crunchyroll's official website, select the "Log In" option, and click on the "Forgot Password?" text located below the password box. Then, enter your email, press the "Send" button, and follow the instructions in the email.

Crunchyroll data breach

For context, on Jan. 23, a now-suspended X user shared images featuring what appeared to be the login credentials of numerous Crunchyroll Premium subscribers. Some replies stated that the leaked emails and passwords were valid.
