FormaL and Seikoo win Esports Controller Player and Controller Rookie of the year

The Esports Awards are a night that celebrates the best of the best in the wonderful Esports industry. Among the plethora of awards presented throughout the night, there is the Controller Rookie of the year as well as Controller Player of the year. Both categories featured players from all different gaming backgrounds. But only one can walk away with the award from each category. And so, the winner for Esports Controller Player of the year is Matthew "FormaL" Piper while Enzo "Seikoo" Grondein took home the Esports Controller Rookie of the year.

The category for Controller Rookie of the year is one of the most competitive. The group was filled with tons of rising stars that included CoD's Zmer "Pred" Zulbeari and Rocket League's Axel "vaitira" Touret. However, only one could walk away with the award. And in the tough category, the French Rocket League player for Team BDS, Seikoo took home the award.

Seikoo has had a phenomenal year to say the least. With 3 first place finishes at top tier tournaments, including the RLCS 2021-2022 World Championships, he's made quite a name for himself. On top of his nomination and win for Controller Rookie, he's also been nominated for best Controller Player of the year. So suffice to say, he's earned the award.

On the other hand, there is the overall Controller player of the year category. This category is even more stacked than the Rookie category. With incredible Controller powerhouses like Noyan "Genburten" Ozkose and Leonardo "MKLeo" Lopez Perez. In the end however, the FormaL took home the award with his phenomenal year over the course of the FormaL tour.

FormaL has a history of playing professional Call of Duty for OpTic Gaming. With the launch of Halo Infinite, the 27-year-old switched to the new FPS game. OpTic dominated the Halo circuit winning almost every tournament that they were in attendance. They ended their season with a 5-4 win over Cloud9 in the Halo World Championship, taking home half of the $400,000 prize pool.
