This arena fighting game features a lot of iconic personalities.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero makes splashy fights from the original anime series so real that you can actually participate in them, taking the role of your favorite characters. Who would that be? Everyone’s hero Goku is here! The mighty villain Frieza, the emperor of the universe, should be a great fighter as well. There are so many Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero characters to choose from — and all of them are listed in this article.

When Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is out

The release date for the game Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is October 11, 2024.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero characters

The full list of characters in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero includes 182 personalities and their various forms.

Why so many characters? This impressively big roster is motivated by a specific gameplay feature and by the anime plot.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is a continuation of the Budokai Tenkaichi series. The newest game, known also as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4, inherits the mechanic of transforming characters during battles. Most fighters can take a stronger form after getting enough energy during a match, and they will be more powerful than taking that form from the very beginning. There should be many Dragon Ball characters in Sparking! Zero to support this feature.

The anime is pretty much about the main characters gaining power. Goku starts as a small kid and his opponents are of the same sort, like Pilaf and Mercenary Tao. Then, the main protagonist unleashes his new powers, layer after layer, and the antagonists should give him proper challenges. Thus, the bad guys in Dragon Ball reach the level of Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu.

New series introduce new, even mightier forms of Goku, his friends, and opponents. Many such forms of one character made it to Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Here is the full game roster of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, explained by basic forms and character categories.

Goku

He is the man: the protagonist who saves everyone again and again. The whole story of Dragon Ball is whirling around Goku, and the guy is one of the best anime characters ever.

He comes from a distant planet of Saiyans, a warrior race. But Goku fails his mission of studying humanity and then destroying people to conquer the Earth. He was raised by humans, became friends with them, and eventually saved the Earth (and countless universes) from many awful dangers.

In Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Goku takes quite a lot of forms.

Vegeta

The noble prince of Saiyans made a transformation from a warrior in Frieza’s army to Goku’s nemesis and eventually to one of the Earth protectors.

In a way, Vegeta is always a step behind Goku, and that irritates him immensely. But at the same time, it feels to be a great motivation for Vegeta to grow and get better.

Vegeta in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has a similar range of playable forms as Goku.

Fusions as characters of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

One great thing was invented in the Dragon Ball series — the characters can fuse and create a totally new person who inherits abilities of two basic forms. Goku and Vegeta used that to fight especially dangerous enemies.

There are two types of fusions. Dance fusion creates Gogeta. Potara fusion (via special earrings) creates Vegito. These characters are present in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, having a variety of forms, like in other games based on this anime, like DBFZ.

Many heroes of the Earth

Goku made many friends during his adventures. Some of them were his opponents first — to help the protagonist obtain even more power (Tien, Piccolo). Some were able to assist Goku at the beginning of his adventures but then couldn’t follow his pace of reaching new forms (Yamcha, Krillin).

We can add to this category of the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero characters Master Roshi, the teacher of kid Goku, and Mr. Satan, a showman who still could be helpful in some moments. Nails is also here, as Goku’s ally from the planet Namek.

Kids of Goku and Vegeta

These two Saiyans got themselves wives on Earth, and pretty soon their families were full of kids. They are not exactly weak children. All of them have the might of Saiyans in their veins, so after some training and a lot of battles, they are ready to join Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. The forms of these characters depend on their age, fusions, and Saiyan level.

We’ve added Videl here as well. Technically, she is not a Saiyan, but being a beloved one of Gohan helped the girl unleash some hidden strengths

Frieza

The emperor of the universe certainly deserves a special category — thanks to his amazing powers and thanks to his many forms in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Frieza was the opponent who triggered the transformation of Goku into the legendary Super Saiyan form.

Frieza’s army

The emperor certainly doesn’t fight alone. Frieza has good minions to take down simple opponents. Only in really tough situations, Frieza makes his appearance to destroy those impudent (and stupid) enough to confront him.

Vegeta (Z-Scouter) could also be here, but during his time in Frieza’s army, the Saiyan prince wasn’t really loyal to the emperor. Even without him, we have some good soldiers among Dragon Ball Sparking Zero characters.

We have added Frieza's father to this category as well. No one, even King Cold can be considered superior to the emperor!

Villains

Many other characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero can fall into this category, but they got their places in other story-driven groups.

Androids 17 and 18 were created by Dr. Gero, and they caused some troubles before abandoning the evil side. Cell is the ultimate Android, and his might helped Gohan reach his top power.

Majin Buu is an eccentric creature that can the absorb abilities of others. He became friends with Mr. Satan and abandoned his evil part. Dabura and Spopovich served Babidi, an evil wizard, who woke up Majin Buu.

Saiyans among Dragon Ball Sparking Zero characters

They were a somewhat wild race of warriors, but Lord Frieza destroyed almost all of the Saiyans. Some of the remnants worked for Frieza (like Raditz). Some survived on distant planets and followed their unique path of power. Bardock is special here. He is actually Goku’s father, who died trying to protect his planet.

It is always great to have Saiyans as playable characters in Dragon Ball fighting games, including Sparking! Zero.

Warriors from various universes

Unleashing internal power through competition is a big topic in the Dragon Ball manga and anime. First, the Tenkaichi tournaments took place on Earth. But the mightiest warriors from other universes did not participate in them. They need something more serious, like the Tournament of Power. Some of these Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero characters are pretty decent villains as well.

Gods

Kais of all levels also participate in the Dragon Ball excitement. They are current or future gods of destruction, like Beerus and Toppo. They may serve other gods, like Whis, or even have a villain nature, like Zamasu.

We also have Goku Black here, who is not actually Goku but another version of Zamasu.
