Ludosity and Fair Play Labs’s Nickelodeon brawler will be smashing onto consoles October 5.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, the upcoming Super Smash Bros. style platformer fighting game, has been confirmed for an October 5 release by the CEO of one of Nick Brawl's developers.
Nick Brawl Release Date and DLC Details
Speaking with Game Informer, Ludosity CEO Joel Nyström answered a question about the game's release date with an enthusiastic "October 5th, baby!" This confirms the date seen previously on the Nintendo Switch eShop a few weeks ago.
The conversation then turned to the game's roster, where Nyström confirmed that the base roster will include 20 characters, two extra characters will join soon after, and then future DLC will be announced "after that." No specific details or teases were given as to who those DLC characters will be.

The Competitive Side of the Brawl
A portion of the interview also focused on the competitive aspect of Nick Brawl. Specifically, GI asked Nyström if the studios involved consider it a "competitive game". "Absolutely we do," Nyström answered point blank. "[Competitive play] was even heavily suggested from Nickelodeon before we even had a publisher for the game. It’s been there since day one."
Comparisons to Super Smash Bros were made immediately after the game was announced. However, Nyström says Nick Brawl has a lower point of entry than its counterpart. . "We’re aiming to make the controls a little easier to get into for new players," Nyström said, "while having the full depth of play the competitive scene wants."
One major point of contention was the lack of voice acting, with gameplay videos of Nick Brawl showing mute characters. Nyström said that the team focused on the best gameplay experience possible, which is "not as straightforward to do as one might think." However, Nyström did acknowledge the fans' uneasiness, saying "as we continue to build the Nick All-Star Brawl franchise, we will be reviewing all options, which may include adding VO down the road."
