The fighting games esports event Thaiger Uppercut 2024 hosted a few global league qualifiers. It’s the last Master event for TEKKEN 8 in 2024.

A few tournaments at TGU 2024 are part of World Tours and Championships. These are the most popular games, and some of the best players in the world attend the event to fight for the precious standing points. The competition within the TEKKEN community is especially high. After Thaiger Uppercut 2024, there will be no more chance to earn a big chunk of TWT 2024 points and propel yourself to the top of the global leaderboard.

Everything about Thaiger Uppercut 2024 is here: the stream, schedule, details on the main games, and the final results.

TEKKEN 8: Pools

After players finished the Pools, 48 participants advanced to the next tournament stage. You can watch the Pools TEKKEN 8 TGU 2024 matches in the video below.

Interestingly enough, many strong players fell to the losers brackets: Arslan Ash, Mulgold, JeonDDing, Raef, KEISUKE, double, and others. ULSAN, Book, Knee, kkokkoma, Shadow 20z, THE JON, CBM, and AK are among those who advanced to the top 48 brackets via the winners side.

TEKKEN 8: Top 48

Day 2 of the TGU 2024 TEKKEN 8 tournament started with the top 48 brackets. Some of the interesting match results are in the list below.

  • ULSAN defeated Book and Knee with 2:0s and sent both to the losers brackets.
  • AK was sent to the losers by Hafiz Tanveer and then eliminated by EDGE.
  • Farzeen eliminated double from the tournament.
  • In the losers brackets, Arslan Ash defeated KEISUKE and Book.

Disqualification of a Chinese player

The tournament had an unusual for the fighting games community controversy. The Chinese player XCC was disqualified from the TEKKEN 8 TGU 2024 Master event — and that happened after he won some matches in the pools and the top 48 brackets. He couldn't face Shadow 20z and Farzeen in the following brackets, which brought the players auto wins.

The official account of Bandai Namco Esports published a statement in this regard. It turned out that China is not among the countries eligible for the TEKKEN World Tour 2024. It is unclear why this step was taken in the middle of the tournament and not before it even started. Such a disqualification may directly affect the finals results.

Following this situation, Bandai Namco apologized once again and confirm that TEKKEN 8 players from China will be able to participate in the TWT 2024 Last Chance Qualifier. Katsuhiro Harada assured that his team makes every effort to increase the number of participating countries".

TEKKEN 8: Top 8

In the winners semi-finals. The American player Shadow 20z managed to get a huge win: over ULSAN. The match was super close, but Shadow 20z found effective ways to recover even from a health deficit. It looks like Zafina has quite a few quick plus-frame tools to oppose the powerhouse of Dragunov.

In the parallel bracket, THE JON demonstrated how dangerous the character King is. Sure, the young Pakistani player Hafiz Tanveer wasn’t an easy victim. With his Claudio, he won game 2 in a pretty dominant way. But Kings grabs… They are terrifying!

In the losers bracket, Mulgold eliminated Arslan Ash with a 2:0 — even if many rounds of this Claudio vs Nina fight could go both ways.

Knee won the losers semi against ULSAN. The legendary TEKKEN player was on Bryan throughout the TGU 2024 T8 tournament. Is it another good matchup vs Dragunov? Or is it the effect of super aggressive offense by Knee?

TEKKEN 8: Finals

For the winners final against THE JON, Shadow 20z switched to Xiaoyu, which is a dangerous matchup for King. That worked for a while, but a few command grabs and powerful hits from the wrestler were enough to “eat” the health bar of the opponent. Switching back to Zafina did not save Shadow 20z in this match.

The players met again in the grand final. Zafina did not work for Shadow 20z, so he switched to Claudio. This character looked much better against the grappler. Claudio took Shadow 20z to game 5, but he couldn’t reset the brackets. That was a true master class on playing King from THE JON!

THE JON is the TEKKEN 8 winner at Thaiger Uppercut 2024. Thanks to this victory, he is now 7th on the TWT 2024 leaderboard, which is deep within the qualification limit for the Global Finals.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Ikoan, who was in the top 8 at the DBFZ World Tour 2023-2024 Finals, confidently defeated Uchiha_FZ in the semi and Novix in the winners final. The grand final fight against tako was much closer. Still, in game 5, Ikoan won the match and the tournament. Ikoan is the DBFZ winner at Thaiger Uppercut 2024.

mok is the KOF XV winner at Thaiger Uppercut 2024. He has earned his SNK World Championship 2025 qualification spot.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising

Gamera, who was 2nd at the GBVSR Evo Japan 2024, had some difficulties at TGU 2024 — specifically in a match against Zenith, the winner of FV Major 2024. Gamera lost to this opponent in the winners final and had to make it to the grand final via losers side. In the decisive battle, Gamera reset the brackets and then won the tournament.

Gamera is the winner of the Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising tournament at Thaiger Uppercut 2024. Thanks to this victory, he earned 100 AWT points and strengthened his position on the global leaderboard.

Guilty Gear Strive

The Japanese player Poka faced super strong opponents at the TGU 2024 Guilty Gear Strive tournament. He entered the top 8 via the losers brackets, and had to achieve four victories to advance to the grand final. In the losers final, Poka played against tatuma, who was 2nd at the GGST Evo 2024 — and Poka won this intense fight. Poka even tried to play Johnny to confront Sol, but after one round with this character, the player returned to his usual main, Happy Chaos.

The grand final was between Poka and Leo., who was 2nd at FV Major 2024 and 3rd at Battle Arena Melbourne 14. Leo. was really close to winning the first match, but Poka clutched, reset the brackets, and then celebrated the ultimate victory.

Poka is the Guilty Gear Strive winner at Thaiger Uppercut 2024. This success is very important for him to qualify for the AWT 2024 Finals.

TEKKEN World Tour 2024: The last Master event

It was a pretty long journey for the TEKKEN 8 competitive community. The World Tour started back in April with the Challenger event Electric Clash 2024. Then, there were quite a few Master events, which grant the top players with the most standing points. Thaiger Uppercut 2024 is the last tournament in this amazing series.

Quite a few top players use this chance. They will not be able to pick Heihachi Mishima, as the newest DLC character is banned at the event and the latest Patch 1.08 is not used for the tournament matches.

DBFZ World Tour 2024 Power event

It’s the top rank of World Tour qualifiers for Dragon Ball FighterZ. And the TGU 2024 DBFZ tournament is one of only two such events left for the 2024 league (the last one is East Coast Throwdown 2024). Such Japanese players as Ikoan, Tako, and Oblivion participate in Thaiger Uppercut 2024 to grind for standing points.

KOF XV: An SNK World Championship 2025 qualifier

With the format of the SNK World Championship 2025, the only thing that can take The King of Fighters XV players to the Global Final event is victory at a qualifier. There is no leaderboard or points. Only the winners make it through.

Madkof won the qualifier at FV Major 2024, and the player still attends TGU 2024. Practice makes perfect, and the tournament practice is the most effective! mok is also here; he was 2nd at Thaiger Uppercut in 2023. Lacid, the winner of KOF LuX Festa 2024, is another notable participant.

GGST and GBVSR: Arc World Tour 2024 Gold qualifiers

The Arc System Works games have Gold-rank qualifiers. The number of standing points is lower here than at the Platinum events (such as at Ultimate Fighting Arena 2024), and the winners don’t get direct invites to the Finals events. Still, the level of TGU 2024 GGST and GBVSR is high, especially because of how close Japan is from Thailand: many top players attend this event.

The excitement of fighting games esports makes a stop in the US quite soon. East Coast Throwdown 2024 is a big event, and it features top tournaments, such as SF6 Capcom Cup 11 Premier qualifier. ECT 2024 happens from Oct. 11 to Oct. 13 in Hartford, Connecticut. For all fighting games news and updates, stick around on esports.gg!
