See which weapons got better and which ones got worse in the Jan. 24 Fortnite update!

Fortnite deployed an update on Jan. 24 centered around various weapons included in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1. Although not a full-fledged patch, you will want to be aware of these weapon adjustments as some have improved while others have slightly decreased overall effectiveness. Here is everything you need to know about the weapon balancing introduced in the latest update.

What weapons have changed in the Fortnite January 24 update?

Six weapons received changes in the Jan. 24 update, including the Holo-Twister Assault Rifle, which will now reload and shoot slower. That's a significant change, considering many felt the Holo-Twister Assault Rifle was one of the best weapons in the game.

While it will likely still be the preferred option, it may be worth experimenting with other ranged weapons as an alternative. In addition to this, the Oni Shotgun received a fire rate increase, making it more viable. Players typically carry the Sentinel Pump Shotgun, but a fire rate increase solves one of the Oni Shotgun's primary issues.

Here is a complete list of weapon balances introduced in the Jan. 24 Fortnite update:

  • Oni Shotgun - Increased fire rate
  • Typhoon Blade - Damage reduction to players and structures
  • Holo-Twister Assault Rifle - Reload and fire rate reduction
  • Twinfire Auto Shotgun - Faster reload time
  • Fury Assault Rifle - Faster reload time
  • Veiled Precision SMG - Faster reload time

Although the Holo-Twister Assault Rifle received a nerf, these changes have opened the loot pool for more experimentation. It will be interesting to see how players' preferred loadouts shift, especially from a Shotgun perspective.

Godzilla spawn rate also increased

Epic Games paired the Jan. 24 weapon changes update with an increased Godzilla spawn rate. The Titan Takeover experience will spawn in every Battle Royale and Zero Build match. You may want to keep that in mind while you build your loadout to take down Godzilla.
