Some Fortnite skins have achieved a status as rare, but which ones are the rarest? Here is the answer to that question and more.

Fortnite Battle Royale is over five years into an epic journey. The game arrived in 2017 and swiftly captured players' attention with its unique gameplay and graphics. However, nothing drew more recognition than Fortnite's various outfits, commonly called "skins." There have been hundreds over the years, but some have been classified as the rarest Fortnite skins.

Some Fortnite skins are more common and frequently return to the item shop, whereas others have yet to and will never be available for purchase again. This topic begs the question: What Fortnite skin is the rarest? After some extensive research, we have the answer.

The actual answer: Rogue Agent

  • Release Date: March 27, 2018
  • Cost: $3.99 (Starter Pack) or 1,500 V-Bucks (Item Shop)
  • Appearances: 77
  • Last Seen: June 11, 2018

Following the re-release of Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper, neither now sits on the "rarest Fortnite skin" throne. However, that barely made a dent in the lengthy list of skins Fortnite players desperately want but haven't had the opportunity to purchase.

The rarest Fortnite skin as it stands is Rogue Agent. This character debuted in Chapter 1 Season 3 as part of the Rogue Agent Starter Pack. It remained available from March through June of 2018. On September 15 of the same year, it was available in the Item Shop before it rotated out for the final time.

Other Starter Pack skins, including Wingman, The Ace, Summit Striker, and Cobalt, are also rare, having not resurfaced in several years. However, Rogue Agent is the king of that collection.

The lesser-known and underrated rare Fortnite skins

For this section, we want to highlight an outfit that, unlike the Starter Pack skins mentioned above, could potentially return in the future. Also, we've included a few that may come back but are unlikely to return.

Reflex

  • Release Date: November 29, 2018 (Bundle) / March 3, 2019 (Item Shop)
  • Cost: The cost of a new NVIDIA graphics card / 1,200 V-Bucks (Item Shop)
  • Appearances: 2
  • Last Seen: March 3, 2019

Reflex is one of the rarest skins in Fortnite, primarily due to the GeForce collaboration surrounding it. The outfit debuted in November 2018 as part of the exclusive GeForce Counterattack Bundle. Players could acquire this cosmetic collection by purchasing a specific GeForce graphics card, which retailed for several hundred dollars.

After purchasing the expensive computer part, you would receive the Reflex skin, back bling, glider, pickaxe, and 2,000 V-Bucks. Four months later, in March 2019, Epic Games mistakenly released the Reflex skin in the Item Shop. As a result, whoever grabbed it on that date now possesses one of the rarest Fortnite skins ever. Reflex has not returned to the Item Shop since, and likely won't ever return.

World Warrior / World Cup Fishstick

  • Release Date: July 26, 2019
  • Cost: 800 V-Bucks
  • Appearances: 4
  • Last Seen: July 28, 2019

The World Warrior and World Cup Fishstick variants are amongst the rarest Fortnite skins ever released. Both were only available briefly during the 2019 Fortnite World Cup promotion. In fact, you only had three days to grab the World Warrior skin before it rotated out of the Item Shop for the final time.

World Cup Fishstick wasn't a separate skin but an alternate style claimable by anyone who logged in before July 29, 2019. Unfortunately, the likelihood of the World Warrior and World Cup Fishstick returning is lower than almost any other skin. As a result, those who have it can comfortably flex it.

Shaman

  • Release Date: March 31, 2019
  • Cost: 1,500 V-Bucks
  • Appearances: 4
  • Last Seen: December 2, 2019

The Shaman Outfit is another that is surprisingly one of the rarest. It debuted in the Item Shop during Chapter 1 Season 8 and only reappeared three times after it was released. Shama was last available on Dec. 2, 2019. While the reason it never resurfaced is unclear, it could return eventually.

Travis Scott

  • Release Date: April 22, 2020
  • Cost: 1,500 V-Bucks
  • Appearances: 6
  • Last Seen: April 27, 2020

A more notorious Fortnite skin may not exist than Travis Scott – the rap artist himself. In April 2020, Epic Games collaborated with Travis Scott for an in-game concert dubbed "Astronomical." The event was a massive hit, as were the cosmetic items that accompanied it. Many players who checked the item shop between April 22 and April 27 spent V-Bucks on the Travis Scott set. Those who missed out never had the chance again.

April 27, 2020, remains the last day the Travis Scott skin appeared in the Fortnite item shop, making it rare in a unique sense. It's unclear why the set never returned, but many believe various controversies surrounding the artist contributed to the ongoing situation. Travis Scott could return in the future, but it's not likely.
