The cast for Super Mario Bros is star studded, highlighted by Chris Pratt, Jack Black, and Charlie Day.
The latest edition of Nintendo Direct ended with a bombshell, as Shigeru Miyamoto announced the release date and cast for the forthcoming Super Mario Bros animated feature film.
The movie is being produced by both Nintendo and American animation studio Illumination Entertainment. The film will see the Italian plumber returning to the big screen for the first time in over 20 years. With his last appearance being in the infamous live-action Super Mario Bros movie in 1993. This will also be the second time movie to be based on a Nintendo property in the last three years; following on from the highly-regarded Pokémon: Detective Pikachu film that came out in 2019.
Super Mario Bros Release Date Announced
Miyamoto also announced that the Super Mario Bros film is set to release in cinemas in December 2022. The film will debut in US cinemas on December 21, 2022, with other regional release dates to follow.
While there is yet to be any sort of trailer footage released for the film as of now, it can be assumed that more information regarding the film will be relayed at future Nintendo Direct events.

Miyamoto also took the opportunity to introduce the main cast members for the movie; and it was a huge announcement.
Headling the cast are Hollywood titans Chris Pratt and Jack Black, who will be voicing Mario and Bowser respectively; with Anya Taylor-Joy playing Princess Peach. The film will also see the likes of Keegan Michael-Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong and Charlie Day as Luigi.
With such a star-studded cast at the helm of an an already ambitious, yet exciting film, Nintendo fans will be hopeful that it lives up to its billing.
