Game Informer has announced its return, with its full staff, after it was abruptly shut down back in August 2024.

It was a sad day in video game media when Game Informer's doors were closed. After over three decades, it was shut down without so much as a warning. And with just as little warning to longtime fans, some good news was delivered. Game Informer returns and the entire team is back with it.

All jokes aside, this is wonderful for anybody who enjoys video games, the news and journalism behind them, and is an avid fan of what Game Informer delivered for 30+ years.

With a surprise video announcement, Game Informer returns in full force

The Game Informer social media accounts and YouTube channel are no longer dormant. A video announcement declaring its comeback went live, and a thunderous applause was heard throughout the video game industry.

Many believed its fate was sealed back in August when it shut down. But Editor-In-Chief Miller Matt appeared first on the video to discuss GI's return from the grave. He enthusiastically explained that 100% of the team that was let go in 2024 is back to work.

The goal is to evolve Game Informer, but still deliver the excellent coverage it has since 1991. It will be available again in print and digital forms, with the team more than excited to provide the content it pioneered all those years ago.

Long story short, Gunzilla purchased Game Informer, and now GI works under Game Informer Inc., an independent entity. You can see more in the official video announcement with messages from multiple members of the team.

They state that more information is on its way for the relaunch of the physical magazine. But until then, many reviews have been shared on their website that cover games that released while they were temporarily closed for business.
