What is Resurgence of the Storm?
Resurgence of the Storm is a recreation of Heroes of the Storm using the StarCraft 2 engine. Resurgence of the Storm is also a passion project created by a small development team and founded by zeroLamberg. Meanwhile, MindHawk is the lead for hero design and balance. SomeoneNew and Libraries assist in design, patch notes, and project organization.
Heroes of the Storm gets StarCraft 2 mod
The development team behind Resurgence of the Storm noted that many players miss the original game since it went into maintenance mode back in 2022. The release trailer reminisced about new heroes, reworks, and balance changes.
"So we took it into our own hands," the video added. "Resurgence of the Storm has been in playtesting for over a year and in development for over four."
Resurgence of the Storm heroes
As of Jan. 4, players can select from 15 heroes. Characters from the original Heroes of the Storm game include Abathar, Anduin, Artanis, Arthas, Auriel, Diablo, E.T.C., Falstad, Kerrigan, Jaina, Malfurion, Ragnaros, and Tychus. Some of these heroes have either new or changed talents and abilities.
Arthas, for example, has a new talent tree alongside strengthened abilities. Meanwhile, Ragnaros has the Raid Time talent at level 1, which reduces the cooldown of Molten Core. As for Diablo, he has the Tantrum talent at level 16, which lets his next Overpower slam its target three times for crowd control.
Resurgence of the Storm: Selendis and Talandar
Resurgence of the Storm has its own heroes as well. One of them is Selendis, who is Protoss from the StarCraft universe. In Resurgence of the Storm, Selendis is a mobile and precise melee assassin. She has side blades alongside a Protoss fleet.
Meanwhile, Talandar is a bruiser hero who is sturdy and has high damage. One of his forms allows him to power up his abilities to overwhelm his enemies.

Is Resurgence of the Storm the same as Heroes of the Storm?
According to the release trailer, Resurgence of the Storm is not a full replacement of Heroes of the Storm. This is because as a Starcraft 2 mod, there are some models and abilities that cannot be replicated.
"Most importantly, there are no Quick Cast settings," the trailer added. "Everyone plays with On release." Quick Cast refers to pressing a hotkey to issue an order in the direction or location of your cursor. On Release refers to pressing a hotkey to enter target mode and releasing the hotkey to issue an order in the direction of your cursor.
Resurgence of the Storm roadmap
In terms of the game's roadmap, a weapon-switching ranged assassin is in development alongside a new Protoss-themed map that's similar to Infernal Shrines. Next, the game aims to port new heroes such as Li-Ming, Brightwing, Greymane, and Muradin.
If the StarCraft 2 mod succeeds, then the development team wants to port fan-favorite brawls such as Pool Party and Escape from Braxis.
