Gold Points are being ended ahead of the Switch 2.

Nintendo have announced that you will no longer be able to earn Gold Points from Mar. 28. The scheme is being discontinued as Nintendo ramps up for the Switch 2, which releases later this year.

It is not clear if there will be a replacement loyalty scheme coming in the future. No details were shared today about any future plans from Nintendo. You could earn Gold Points when purchasing games from the Nintendo eShop and Nintendo Website. You could also earn points when registering a game you purchased from other retailers. These points could then be redeemed for discounts on Nintendo platforms.

Thankfully, all Nintendo points previously earned, or earned before the cut off next month, will still be valid. Gold Points last for one year, so make sure to spend any you have saved up before they expire.

Nintendo discontinues Gold Points moving forward

The Nintendo Gold Points scheme was understandably popular amongst Nintendo fans. It amounted to about a 5% "cashback" when purchasing directly from Nintendo and could be used on anything sold in the eShop or Nintendo website.

This included consoles, accessories and games. While you would have to save up a lot to spend on big ticket items, fans often used these to purchase things like DLC's, or in game purchases like Mii Costumes in Super Smash Brothers.

Now, pending any further announcements, there will be no loyalty scheme heading into the new Switch 2 era for Nintendo fans.

Game vouchers also get an adjustment

Another scheme valued by fans has gotten an adjustment ahead of the Switch 2. Game vouchers, which allowed you to purchase two games from a list for a discount if you were a Nintendo Switch Online member will not apply to the Switch 2.

"Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers are a special offer available to Nintendo Switch Online members that can be purchased in a set of two. Each individual voucher can be redeemed for a selected Nintendo Switch digital software title, presenting the opportunity to save on two games. Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers cannot be redeemed for games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 system."

Between the discontinuation of Gold Points and the exclusion of Switch 2 games from the voucher programme, Nintendo fans are losing two of the best ways to save some cash on new titles.
