If you are a fan of fighting games, you have probably heard of Project L. The unreleased game has had gamers talking for quite some time now, and Riot Games just gave fans a new look at the duo-play system, which helps the new franchise stand out from traditional fighting games.
So what exactly comes alongside the duo-play system in Project L? Executive Producer Tom Cannon and Game Director Shaun Rivera broke it down for fans in a video posted on Twitter.
Project L unveils its new duo-play system
Riot is always leading the gaming world in innovation and new ideas. Their new duo-play system not only allows players to play as a team but literally fight together on the battlefield.
"Project L isn't just a 'tag-based' fighting game," said Cannon. "It's a 2v2 'team-based' fighting game. This means that teams of two players can face off together in the same match, with each player piloting a single champion."
In the past, games of this nature usually lead to switching between players after every fight, but not anymore.
"So we're building a game where you can play with your friends, as well as against them."
"Y'all have no idea how long I've been waiting to talk about this," said Rivera. "Duo play works a bit like tag-team wrestling. One player controls the champ onstage and the other waits off-screen for their teammate to find the right moment to tag them in."
This is a great way to encourage teamwork and allows players to tag in their teammate when they need them for a clutch moment.
Will Project L still support 1v1 matches?
As discussed in the video above, Project L WILL support 1v1 matches. Not only that, but it will also support 1v2 matches as well.
"Don't worry solo players," said Rivera. "You can still play as a solo tag-team fighter, and control both champs at once."
This is an excellent feature for those unable to find a teammate.
"Fight your own battles, or bring a friend. The choice is yours."
The game's duo-play system adds a new playstyle to the world of fighting games and is gearing fans up for an exciting release. So when is the game's release set for? As of now, there is no set release date, but with updates like this, we can only assume it is just beyond the horizon.
