StarCraft 2’s champion has been crowned at the Esports World Cup 2025, as Joona “Serral” Sotala stands tall.

Over four days, StarCraft 2 took over the Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC 2025), culminating in a massive grand final between Joona "Serral" Sotala and Kim "Classic" Doh-woo, where a champion was crowned. The tournament offered up a prize pool of $700,000 for the 18 players involved. However, over and above that, there were a ton of EWC Club Points on the line.

At the end of the day, it was Serral that claimed the lion's share of the spoils, claiming the Esports World Cup StarCraft 2 championship.

Serral becomes the goat of StarCraft 2 at the Esports World Cup

Having lost in a very unconventional manner at the 2024 EWC event, Serral was looking for redemption. While he never managed to claim his revenge over Clément "Clem" Desplanches, his grand final challenger was the man who eliminated the previous champion. Serral outclassed everyone in his path, including his BASILISK teammate, Riccardo "Reynor" Romiti.

Serral’s win at the Esports World Cup 2025 makes him a three-time World Champion in StarCraft 2. He also nets 1000 Club World Cup Points for BASILISK. Classic, on the other hand, claims 750 for Virtus.pro. The full breakdown of tournament results is as follows:

With Serral becoming the champion of StarCraft 2 at the EWC, he takes another win for the Zerg players. Sadly, for Classic and the Protoss, another tournament goes by without a win for the faction. This continues the 10-year streak without the Protoss winning a world championship.
