shroud announces open-world survival game Project Astrid

shroud is known for popping off in every FPS he touches. Now, shroud is one of the minds behind upcoming survival game Project Astrid.

Herschel "Dr Disrespect" Beahm isn't the only streamer working on a video game. Mike "shroud" Grzesiek and Christopher "Sacriel" Ball have announced an AAA open-world survival game known as Project Astrid.

In a press release outlining the shocking news, gaming studio Splash Damage announced that Sacriel and shroud would be bringing their experience as hardcore gamers, community builders, and "subject matter experts" to help lead this project.

“This project means everything to me. Chris and I have refined a vision for what’s next in the survival genre and with Splash Damage we’re setting out to build it. We want to build the best survival game ever, and with Sacriel’s brain and Splash Damage’s team, I know we can do it," shroud said.

Sacriel added that the project is a "dream come true." He explained that he and shroud want to build a game that "streamers and gamers love playing."

The two streamers have been working on Project Astrid from the beginning, according to creative director Lance Winter. Their focus has been providing the dev team with fresh perspectives and insight into what creators want from a video game.

He added: "No one knows this genre better than they do."

What is Project Astrid?

Project Astrid is a game being developed by Splash Damage, a studio that recently announced TRANSFORMERS: REACTIVATE. This survival game will feature an entirely new world on an "ambitious scale," inspired by direct insight and guidance from shroud and Sacriel.

The title, release date, and content of Project Astrid is still unknown. Right now, the game is in pre-production. Updates can be found on Twitter and we will make sure to have all the latest news on Project Astrid as information is revealed.

This isn't the first time that a big name in the streaming world has pursued video game production. Dr Disrespect, who previously had experience creating Call of Duty maps, has opened his own gaming studio called Midnight Society. His first project is a vertically focused battle royale called Deadrop.

Now, shroud and Sacriel are looking to "push the boundaries" of survival and shooter games with Project Astrid. It will be interesting to see how the streamers' insight into the player experience will help shape this upcoming game.
