Hearthstone 25.0 patch notes: March of the Lich King is upon us

The next Hearthstone updates bring content for every game mode and new in-game features. Check the 25.0 patch note with Esports.gg

The 25.0 Hearthstone update will launch tomorrow, but Blizzard has just released the patch notes to prepare us for the March of the Lich King expansion. The 25.0 Hearthstone patch notes bring some interesting news for Arena, Duels and Battlegrounds players. Let's go over the changes coming to the game tomorrow.

Hearthstone 25.0 patch notes: expansion content

Expansion patches are mostly focused on constructed content and all the new cards coming to the game. The March of the Lich King Hearthstone expansion will go live on December 6, and while the 25.0 patch notes don't give us any new information, we can do a recap of everything we already know.

The new expansion will bring a plethora of content. If you feel overwhelmed, don't worry, we have covered most of it with guides and explanations for you to take one bite at a time.

Below you can find our guides and articles referring to the March of the Lich King expansion and the new features coming to Hearthstone described in the 25.0 patch notes.

But this is not the only content coming to Hearthstone with the 25.0 patch. All other game modes will get something special too!

Battlegrounds updates: 25.0 Patch notes

Battlegrounds' meta has been stale for a while and the last minion rotation didn't shake things up enough for players to have a refreshing experience. While the 25.0 update doesn't focus on Hearthstone's auto battler, we are getting a new Hero according to the patch notes.

If you are a true OG Hearthstone player, you might know Enhance-o-Mechano already. This new Hero entering the Battlegrounds respects the minion's flavor with its Hero Power. Ehnhancification will give a minion in Bob's Tavern Taunt, Windfury, Reborn, or Divine Shield.

On top of this new character, the 25.0 Hearthstone patch notes mention a new Battlegrounds quest: Enhance-a-matic. Once again, full Goblins and Gnomes vibes. This Quest rewards players with "Enhanced Parts" that give +5/+5 and a random bonus on top. This bonus is the same as the Enhance-o-Mechano Hero Power gives to minions: Taunt, Windfury, Reborn, or Divine Shield.

All this new content will be live on Tuesday 29 when the 25.0 Hearthstone patch launches. Remember that as usual, the new Enhance-o-Mechano Hero will show up in every Battlegrounds lobby for two weeks after the 25.0 patch launch.

Death Knights invade Duels in Hearthstone patch 25.0

Duels will start marching at the pace of the Lich King as soon as the 25.0 Hearthstone patch launches. Starting on November 29, March of the Lich King, Path of Arthas, and Knights of the Frozen Throne will be added to the Duels card buckets. Moreover, Knights of the Frozen Throne will also be added to deckbuilding. Bring your jacket winter is coming.

On December 6, when the March of the Lich King expansion goes live Duels players will also be able to enjoy the Death Knight class. Two new heroes will represent the eleventh Hearthstone class in the game mode.

The Hearthstone Death Knight class will not be playable until the March of the Lich King expansion launches on December 6, 25.0 patch notes say. While you don't need to play the Death Knight Prologue to unlock the class in Duels, if you don't, you won't have access to the Death Knight Cor Set.

Both new Duels Heroes come with specific Signature Treasures that you can check out in the official post.

Another interesting change coming to Hearthstone Duels with patch 25.0 is the Card Bucket Revamp. Hearthstone devs decided to eliminate the "Group Learning". Card buckets will now give cards by expansion, not by card type or effects.

Arena rotation

March of the Lich King will bring an Arena shake-up too. The 25.0 Hearthstone patch notes reveal that starting on December 6, Arena will see its classic set rotation. The following sets will be part of the Arena card pool:

  • Core
  • Curse of Naxxramus
  • Mean Streets of Gadgetzan
  • Knights of the Frozen Throne*
  • The Witchwood
  • United in Stormwind
  • March of the Lich King
  • Path of Arthas

What's probably more exciting is that Death Knight will also be an eligible class in Arena. Regarding the new Rune deck-building system, the 25.0 Hearthstone patch notes say that the offering "will dynamically update as you pick cards so that the Death Knight Rune system is followed".

Celebrating Death Knights with a Launch Event and a special Tavern Brawl

The 25.0 patch notes announced that a new event is coming to Hearthstone: Death Knight Launch Event. This new special celebration will run from December 6 to December 20 and will have incredible rewards.

Players can get 6 Signature cards, a March of the Lich King pack and a special Card Back upon completing the Event reward track. All the information will be available on the new Event page, where you can check your special Quests, the experience earned and the rewards.

What's more, on December 7, we will have a new Tavern Brawl. A Lich King Recipe will allow players to try for free the deck recipes for the 11 Hearthstone classes.

Select any class, and you will play with a battle-ready Standard deck. Select the Death Knight class, and you will play with one of three random decks highlighting a different Rune.

Don't forget

Despite Blizzard forgetting to include the nerfs coming in Hearthstone 25.0 patch notes, we don't. Theotar and Ice Revenant will be nerfed when the patch goes live tomorrow. You can read more about those balance chances, including dev insights, in our dedicated article.

Furthermore, Mercenaries is getting a new character as well. Chromie, an Epic Protector will move to the Mercenaries village with Hearthstone patch 25.0.
