Role quests in League of Legends 2026

Role quests already exist in League. Junglers had the mission to finish their jungle item, while support players needed to complete their quest to get their specialized support item and vision wards.

In 2026, all roles in League of Legends will have their respective role quests. This is part of Riot's goal of balancing role agency, meaning the impact each player on a team is not too skewed towards a specific role or two.

How do role quests work in LoL 2026?

Don't worry, you won't have to do anything special or different to progress these role quests. You can progress and complete them by killing minions, champions, plates, towers, or neutral objectives. You can complete them faster if you do these in your assigned lane.

Minions, plates, and towers are all changing in 2026, too. Read about them here.

As for completion time, the devs say it will vary. However, you can expect to complete them at around the same time as the support items upgrade now.

Our biggest goal with role quests was to increase each role's satisfaction and make each feel like they have a unique way to engage with and influence that game. At the same time, this gives us a chance to buff top and bot lane relative to the others, as they're currently the two weakest roles. So as a heads up those quests are going to be comparatively stronger.

Top lane role quest - Third Summoner Spell: Teleport

There is an anti-laneswap mechanic as they gain less gold and XP from minions outside of top lane until level 3.

1200 points are required to complete the quest.

  • Minion kill: +1 (+2 in Top Lane)
  • Epic monster takedown: +30
  • Turret takedown: +25 (+50 in Top Lane)
  • Turret plate: +20 (+40 in Top Lane)
  • Champion takedown: +15
  • Passively gained starting at 1:05: +1 per 3 seconds, increased to +8 per 5 seconds when near Top Lane

Quest Rewards:

  • Level cap up to 20
  • +600 XP
  • Future experience gain increased by 12.5%
  • If Teleport was not selected as a Summoner Spell: Gain Unleashed Teleport with a 7-minute cooldown.
  • If Teleport was selected, it is upgraded to grant a 30% max HP shield upon arrival. The shield lasts for 30 seconds.

Top laners get Teleport on top of the two Summoner Spells they chose at the start of the game. This additional Teleport will have a longer cooldown, though. If Teleport is one of the chosen summs, it will instead get buffed. Upon usage, it will provide a large shield scaling off max health.

They will also get bonus experience, both up-front and from various sources, after completing the quest. Their level cap will also be increased to 20.

Mid lane role quest - Tier 3 boots, empowered Recall

1350 points are needed to complete the mid lane quest.

  • Damage dealt to champions is converted to quest progress:
    • Melee champions: 3% of damage dealt
    • Ranged champions: 1.5% of damage dealt
  • Minion kill: +1 (+2 in Mid Lane)
  • Epic monster takedown: +30
  • Turret takedown: +25 (+50 in Mid Lane)
  • Turret plate: +20 (+40 in Mid Lane)
  • Champion takedown: +15
  • Passively gained starting at 1:05: +1 per 3 seconds, increased to +8 per 5 seconds when near Mid Lane

Quest rewards

  • Tier 2 boots are upgraded to Tier 3. If boots are purchased after quest completion, they will be upgraded on purchase.
  • Empowered Recall every 5 minutes. This brings down the Recall duration from 8 to 4 seconds.
  • Champion takedowns reduce Empowered Recall cooldown by 1 minute.

With the removal of Feats of Strength, the only way to get tier 3 boots will be to complete the mid lane role quest. This means that only one player per team will have access to them.

Mid laners will receive the free tier 3 boots upgrade and an empowered 4-second recall for the rest of the game upon completing their quest. According to devs, the tier 3 boots will receive minor changes from their current forms.

Bot lane role quest - Seventh item slot

Like top lane, bot laners are also discouraged from laneswapping.

  • Gold and XP from minions reduced by 25% outside of bot lane until level 3.

1350 points are required to complete the bot lane quest.

  • Minion kill: +1.5 (+3 in Bot Lane)
  • Epic monster takedown: +30
  • Turret takedown: +25 (+50 in Bot Lane)
  • Turret plate: +20 (+40 in Bot Lane)
  • Champion takedown: +15
  • Passively gained starting at 1:05: +1 per r3 seconds, increased to +8 per 5 seconds when near Bot Lane.

Quest rewards

  • +300 gold
  • +2 gold per minion kill for the rest of the game
  • +50 gold per champion takedown for the rest of the game
  • Boots moved to the Role Quest slot.

Bot laners will get to carry out their carry fantasy better with their role quest.

Upon completing their quest, they will receive a lump sum of gold, and increased gold from minion kills, champion kills, and assists for the rest of the game. "Where will they use this gold?" you ask.

They will get a seventh item slot as part of their quest rewards. This slot will hold their boots, freeing up space in their inventory for another Legendary item in the late-game. Since the extra slot is only for boots, this means that they cannot have seven Legendary items in their inventory.

LoL 2026 isn't only adding role quests; they're introducing new items, too. Check out all the details of the new items here to see if they're worthy of your extra inventory slot.

Jungle role quest changes in League of Legends 2026

  • Pet stacks needed to finish the quest: 35 (down from 40)
  • Gustwalker movement speed bonus duration: 1.5 seconds (down from 2)
  • Smite damage: 600/1000/1400 (up from 600/900/1200)
  • After quest completion, junglers gain 4% movement speed in the jungle or river, doubled when out of combat.
  • After quest completion, junglers gain +10g and +10 XP per large monster slain.

Jungle's current role quest upgrades their Smite and gives them the ability to use it against enemy champions. Since it is considered the most impactful and strongest role in the game right now, they were careful in changing the jungle quest.

For LoL 2026, early game clear speed will be reduced. However, they will get increased gold and experience from large monsters and extra movement speed in the jungle after they complete their quest. Smite will also deal more damage than it currently does. Combined with the tankier objectives, it should be easier for junglers to secure objectives.

Support role quest changes in League of Legends 2026

Supports get the same anti-laneswap precaution, along with some small changes:

  • Gold and XP from minion kills and Support Quest items reduced by 25% outside of bot lane until level 3.
  • Zaz'Zak's Realmspike, Solstice Sleigh, Bloodsong, Dream Maker, and Celestial Opposition gold generation: 9 gold per 10 seconds (up from 5g/10s)
  • After Quest Completion, Control Wards now only cost 40g and up to two can be stored on the Role Quest slot.

Like jungle, devs also think that the support role quest that gives them an upgraded item and wards is already powerful. They are still getting changes for 2026, despite this.

Supports will get an inventory slot exclusively for Control Wards, so you won't have to give up vision control for an extra item anymore in the late game. Control wards will also be discounted for supports.
