The ranked ladder climb just got easier.
Jeremy "Riot Brightmoon" Lee and Andrei "Meddler" Van Roon shared some developer updates with the League of Legends (LoL) community. These updates included changes to the ranked ladder timeline as well as the complete removal of Mythic items.
LoL developer update: Changes to the ranked season
Brightmoon kicked off the update by talking about the timings of ranked resets. While LoL currently has its ranked season running from January to November, finishing after the culmination of Worlds, Meddler highlighted how this long grind can feel tiring over 10 consecutive months.
"The three-split season should hopefully result in a faster climb across each split. [It] also means there will be the opportunity to earn three ranked skins each year."
After testing out a two-split season in 2023, Riot will bring this change into the next season. Therefore, the ranked season will soon see three points for a fresh start. Additionally, it will extend the ability to climb without having to wait 10 months for the next season.
- Split 1: Jan. 9
- Split 2: May (Exact date TBA)
- Split 3: September (Exact date TBA)
This also means that the current ranked ladder climb will be extended. Instead of finishing after Worlds 2023, it will now finish on Jan. 3 next year.
