The intensity of Play-In matches reached its absolute peak! The reward is high: qualification to the Swiss Stage.

The initial stage of the League of Legends World Championship 2024 (LoL Worlds 2024) event turned out to be full of unexpected drama. The North American team 100 Thieves lost to the Latin American one, Rainbow7, despite being a strong favorite. People generally expected a lot from the Taiwanese team PSG Talon after their excellent performance at the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (MSI 2024). But their matches were shaky and on the verge of failure — which actually happened in the match against European team MAD Lions KOI.

No more mistakes allowed! One team earns the excitement of advancing to the Swiss Stage, which is one step closer to the Playoffs. Another team faces the ultimate heartbreak — shattered dreams and the players going home. Everything about the LoL Worlds 2024 decider match for 100T vs PSG is here.

Match recap: 100T vs PSG

PSG Talon were just better! 100 Thieves got into trouble super early in both games and simply couldn’t recover. The advantage of PSG Talon was almost tangible, and they won their spot in the Swiss Stage fairly.

100T are eliminated from Worlds 2024.

"One similarity between both of our losses is that when we started losing, we weren't really able to bounce back that well. I mean, mentally. [...] Four of five players are for the first time at Worlds, and I think it's a good experience for them. Also, it's the first time for me as a head coach at Worlds. So I think it's a very positive experience for all of us."

"Of course, we are really happy that we won today, and it will add a lot more confidence to our team."

For PSG, the next match will be against G2 Esports — the team that eliminated them from MSI 2024.

Game 1

Game 1 fell apart for 100 Thieves around their Herald fight. The PSG players positioned themselves so well that they just eliminated the opponents with ease. That advantage snowballed quickly, and around 20 minutes, PSG were winning team fights one after another. The game was won by the Taiwanese team even before destroying the Nexus.

Game 2

For this game’s draft, 100T banned some of the champions that destroyed them before: Skarner, Gnar, and Jhin. That helped, but not in a way 100 Thieves had hoped. PSG Talon just weren’t as dominant, but they still got their advantage super early — around the second Voidgrubs fight. They grew somewhat slower, as 100T responded nicely in many moments. Still, the result became obvious pretty soon into Game 2, and 100 Thieves could not avoid this loss and elimination.

PSG Talon won and qualified for the LoL Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage.

100T and PSG: International success cemented

In their previous match, 100 Thieves eliminated a team from the Pacific Championship Series (PCS): Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS gaming — and they did it in such a dominant way. PSG Talon is the last standing organization from that region. No, 100 Thieves couldn't destroy them, either!

The high expectations for PSG Talon were based on their recent international success at MSI 2024. It was a lot of pressure, but now, that result is cemented at the LoL Worlds 2024 event, and this will give the players a lot of confidence in their future careers. In a way, that’s worth even more than qualifying for the Swiss Stage.

The LoL Worlds 2024 event will continue with the Swiss Stage on Oct. 3. All 16 teams will have quite a few matches to be among the eight that advance to the Playoffs. For all news and updates stick around on esports.gg!
