It’s a match to decide whether the legendary T1 players advance further in the tournament.
T1 started their run at the League of Legends World Championship 2024 (LoL Worlds 2024) with a loss — to TES in Round 1. Sure, the head-to-head history between these teams did not start there, and it doesn’t end with the quarter-final. But it's extremely interesting to witness this next chapter in the epic battle between Top Esports and T1.

Match recap: TES vs T1
The hopes of a back-and-forth match remained just hopes. T1 players were so well organized that they left no chance for Top Esports to fight back.
The games were mainly slow and cautious. Both teams wanted to develop their champions and find better moments to strike. Somehow, T1 just did it better.
There was a period of resistance from TES in Game 3, when it looked like they may recover from a disastrous early disadvantage. But that illusion evaporated with a couple of quick kills. T1 played with their victims!
T1 won the match, and they face the winner of the other-quarter final: Gen.G vs FlyQuest — in the semi-final on Oct. 27. This legendary team never misses the semi-finals at the LoL World Championships!
“We had an amazing game today. I think we got lucky. [...] I’m constantly thinking about how I’m gonna do better, how I’m gonna develop myself. Also, I love playing this game, League of Legends. [...] I don’t know who our opponents will be yet, but it’s going to be another banger, just like today. I hope we can keep today’s form, just like we performed today.”
Game 1
Both teams started with risky offensive moves, and Faker got the First Blood money. Soon, Top Esports responded with a couple of kills.
T1 went slightly ahead in terms of objectives. They got four Voidgrubs and two Dragons. They even secured Herald, despite an attempt by TES to interfere. Still, T1 couldn’t earn any substantial gold advantage yet.
T1 players were quite active moving around the map. They managed to avoid unnecessarily dangerous situations, even if it meant giving away a Dragon for TES. T1 wanted to power up Camille of Zeus first of all and get generally stronger for the upcoming team fights.
TES also had such a plan in mind. Ivern of Tian became pretty strong to threaten any opponent. They even got a nice kill around Baron. But T1 cautiously avoided massive fights — until they were ready. When a moment came, T1 just destroyed the entire TES team.
When Top Esports returned to the Summoner’s Rift, they started a desperate Baron attempt. In his classic style, Oner stole the objective, and then his teammates killed every opponent. T1 went for a siege and won Game 1.

Game 2
Faker made his most iconic pick in Game 2: the LoL legend was on Ahri. Creme got Faker’s previous Champion: Sylas. Another champion exchange was Rumble for Zeus, while 389 took Galio.
This time, TES decided to contest Voidgrubs, and they secured two of them in the first set. T1 got themselves the first Dragon. The second set of Voidgrubs turned out to be a disaster for TES. They got one, went for more, and lost a team fight. Faker demonstrated miracles of positioning and secured amazing kills.
T1 had around a 2k gold advantage around minute 15. All T1 players were ahead of their direct opponents, with Faker having a 1.2k advantage. Top Esports tried to compensate for that with turrets and other objectives. But even a Herald launch failed for them.
It looked like T1 returned to their cautious style from Game 1. Only when TES went for another Dragon, T1 decided to confront that — with not too much success. Despite the promises of the draft stage, the mid-game was very slow, with no kills in sight. The teams danced around each other in the Mid lane. Then T1 started Baron, and when the opponents tried to do something, TES players were suddenly all dead.
With the Baron buff and three Dragons on their side, T1 destroyed the base of Top Esports and earned a match point in this LoL Worlds 2024 quarter-final. T1 one with no death on them at all!
Game 3
Keria picked Pyke to spice this game, and Faker decided to play on Galio this time. Tian took Xin Zhao, the previous champion of T1’s Jungler.
Once again, T1 earned the First Blood bonus. And even when TES players actively looked for victims, the kills went for T1 instead. The risky play did not pay off for Top Esports at all.
T1 secured four Voidgrubs, and at this point, Faker sat on a more than 1k gold lead. TES got a Dragon and Herald, but they were 6k gold down at minute 15. Top Esports earned a couple of kills, trying to turn the game around. T1 did not risk with their responses, and the game became slow for a while.
Surprisingly, TES were a menace in team fights around the objectives. Scaring T1 away from Baron looked like a success for Top Esports — or even not dying on T1’s next Baron attempt. TES miraculously survived on the verge of elimination, only for a little longer.
Then, T1 suddenly found a few kills and just destroyed the Nexus, super quickly and with no hesitation. They eliminated TES from LoL Worlds 2024.
Epic competition
This quarter-final represents two layers of epic competition. First, it is an exciting battle between T1 and Top Esports — the teams have a head-to-head history, and the whole League of Legends community is excited to see the continuation. But also, it’s a match between an LPL team (LoL Pro League, China) and a team from LCK (LoL Champions Korea). In a way, this is the main intrigue of the whole playoff part at LoL Worlds 2024.
T1 vs TES
The battle between T1 and TES got wonderfully intense during the Esports World Cup 2024. The teams reached the LoL EWC grand final, and T1 won that match. Top Esports succeeded in game 1, but then T1 adapted to these opponents and entered their unstoppable mode.
Then, T1 and TES played on the opening day of the LoL World Championship 2024 Swiss stage. And Top Esports won this time! They found an answer to the early advantage of T1 and smashed their base. That was a Bo1 match, and the battle was over before T1 could come up with better picks and more effective strategies.
LCK vs LPL
As for the LPL vs LCK in the Knockout stage of LoL World 2024 (final playoff brackets), It feels like we can get this competition heading up to the grand final. Chinese teams dominate in one branch of the brackets — after BLG defeated HLE, we have a guaranteed LPL team in the Worlds grand final: BLG or Weibo Gaming. The other contender will be decided after three matches: in the second semi-final, the TES vs T1 winners will face the winner of GEN vs FLY. Having an LCK team making it through is quite realistic.
The series of quarter-finals at LoL Worlds 2024 finishes on Oct. 20. Two semis happen on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27. The grand final is on Nov. 2. Stick around on esports.gg for all League of Legends news and updates.
